Purple Lights Nights

Purple Light Nights is an event that started in Covington, WA in 2007. The event has grown nationally with fourteen other states now participating in the 3rd Annual Purple Light Nights campaign.

Purple Light Nights runs during the month of October, and the goal is to remember 494 domestic violence homicide victims in Washington State (from 1997 - 2008) and give hope to those who are still living with abuse. The color purple is recognized as the international color symbolic of domestic violence.

Participating in Purple Light Nights is easy. Just replace your porch light with a purple light or string up some purple lights along your house or business. Both light bulbs and strings of lights are available for purchase at the Covington City Hall. Light bulbs sell for $3.00 or two for $5.00, and string lights are $30.00 each.

Businesses or families may also sponsor a tree for $100.00. Street trees in the Covington Place shopping center will be covered in purple lights throughout the month of October and a recognition sign for each sponsor will be placed at the base.

For more information or to place an order you can call Victoria at 253-638-1110 at ex 2237 or you can send an email to pln@ci.covington.wa.us. Proceeds benefit the CDVTF who have provided 60 bed nights, food boxes, cell phones, and gas vouchers to keep women and children safe.
