Our "little black dress" of Staging: The White Slipcovered Sofa

One of our most versitile staging pieces has got to be the classic white slipcovered sofa. This sofa looks great in any room and works with any color scheme. Our white sofas, loveseats and chairs have washable slipcovers, are lightweight and therefore easy to haul and move, and have removable cushions.

We love these classic white pieces!

Diana:  Boy those little pieces of furniture sure get around town!  I love a great slipcovered piece of furniture.  I have been afraid of white, but have a few pieces in the ever popular tan.

Have a great day from the Pacific Northwest.

Diana ~ White slipcovered furniture works in so many different settings--I just love them.   They really freshen and brighten up a space.  Thanks for sharing your photos.

Dianna, I have a slip covered chair that I use everywhere too. Your photos have inspired me to make a trip to IKEA next month and purchase the sofa!

BTW, are the Point Edwards condos advertised in this months edition of Seattle Home?

We already had about 7 of them and just ordered 2 more!  They are fantastically wonderful and I agree, certainly are the little black dress of home staging!  They work almost anywhere....

They look wonderful! Is there any problem keeping them clean? That would be my only concern about using white.

Hmm...you get alot of use out of them and they work well for staging.  That color goes in every room!

I just purchased my first one last month but it was more of an off white.  My next purchase will be a white one.  Great photos and great staging!

Thanks for sharing Diana.

Another thing I have noticed is how well white photographs. When I use a dark colored sofa it just seems to suck the light out of the room. Nice photos and nice staging!

Has anyone ever tried Simplicity sofas? They're made in HIgh Point and come in pieces so if you have to you can take them apart to fit up a stairwell etc. Look nice in the catalog but it's always hard to tell if the quality is there from photos...

Thanks for stopping by to comment, everyone!

Roberta - Yes, these are the Point Edwards condos near the Edmonds waterfront that have been advertised in the Seattle Times.  I think the project is on Phase 3 or 4.  We have staged about 20 condos at Pt. Edwards over the past several years.

Laurie - The white isn't really difficult to keep clean.  When we transport these sometimes we take off the slipcovers to keep them clean, but not always.  They are also washable, but most often we just spot clean them when needed.  We also store the seat and back cushions in separate plastic bags in our warehouse so they stay clean.

Tessa - I've never heard of the Simplicity sofas.  That would be a great option to take them apart!  The sofas we use are from IKEA and the feet come off for those tight doorways, but usually they fit through any space we need to put them.

Your right they are very versatile ... they look great in any of the settings. Thanks for sharing.

I have not used white before...but after seeing your photos I am having second thoughts.  Everyroom looks great...clean and elegant!!!

Ok so the next time that an IKEA is nearby and I'm in my van, this sofa will be my purchase.  Between you Diana and Melissa M. I'm convinced.  Your photos say it all!

Can you get slip covers for any piece of furniture or is it for a very specific piece....  Oudated floral print furniture can definitely detract from a room...

Hi Kevin,  You can purchase slipcovers for all sizes and shapes of sofas.  These slipcovers are specifically made for these sofas, but for other sofas I recommend the stretchy type of slipcovers.  They look good on a variety of shapes of sofas.  I agree...the outdated floral print needs to be updated when a house is on the market.

Beautiful Staging work Diana! And yes it's true we often fall back to our favorite neutral pieces for many jobs. I rent my furniture, but have 2 fave sofas that I use on almost every project because they look great and can be accessorized in any color scheme.

Wow!  Looks great.  We have two white loveseats that never fail to "make" the room but we're looking for more.  We considered these IKEA sofas but, not liivng near an IKEA, we weren't sure how they really looked.  Have you purchased other slip covers for the sofa?  How do they look?  Does they require a lot of ironing?

( 05/24/09 07:04PM ) — Diana Young

Hi Wendy,  The IKEA sofas and loveseats are very similar to the Pottery Barn "basic" slipcovered pieces, but much less expensive.  The slipcovers stay pretty clean, but you can always spot clean or wash them if they get dirty.  We usually don't iron these at all, but occasionally steam the slipcovers when they are on the furniture.  We have not purchased additional slipcovers as the creamy white goes with everything.
