Don't just clean the gutters "out" - clean them

Often a home inspector will call the gutters as overflowing and clogged, based on their outward appearance. When you pay someone to go up and clean "out" the gutters, make sure they also clean the gutters themselves, while they are up there.

Besides giving your home that extra sparkling curb appeal, dirty gutters are a sign that there is a problem. So when you get the problem fixed, remove the affects of that problem too.

How many home sellers get mad at the inspector for being "wrong"? If you have a 3 story house, often the inspector won't be climbing up to check those gutters. So get them nice and white, after you resolve the problem that is causing them to overflow for the length of the gutter.

Amazing the difference it makes!  If you want top dollar, and a stressfree transaction, it is best to go over everything with a fine toothed comb!

Cleaning them inside and out is a great way to show buyers how much you care for the house!  It also helps to keep the water out!

Ardell: dirty gutters are a major turn off. One can always pressure wash them..Thanks for the tip.

The best way to clean gutters I find is by using a hose and lut it run through until the water id clear...also ...hand pick out all leaves and muck. Putting nets over the top also saves on build up. As far as the out side...a little spray of bleach in a bottle...let sit for 10 minutes and wash with the hose makes them come out nice and white and shiny.

Ardell...  Couldn't agree with you more, it's the little things that make a big impression.

Ardell,

That is a really good point. If you got to do something you do not want to do, then do it in such a way that it really helps the appearance of the home too.

Neal,

Yes, in the photo, bleach was used!

Steven: "Anything worth doing...is worth doing WELL!"  The nuns hammered that into my head for 12 years.

I feel the same about gutters as I do about air filters. It's a must do for sellers.  The appearance of small details not being kept up certainly plants the idea in a buyer's mind that the house has been been taken care of...
