I've always liked boxwoods, and while walking home this afternoon in my town of Kirkland WA, I saw this very boxlike boxwood. I just love the idea of being able to form shaped hedges. I think I've liked the idea since I visited Versailles. What magnificent shaped gardens they have.
I have a "doughnut" boxwood. At least that's what I call it. I can display anything I want in the middle of it. Right now the geraniums have "center stage". At Christmas time it's a tree of swirled lights with a star on top that stands 5% tall. My boxwood below creates a stage and I can see whatever I put "on the stage" from my living room window and front porch.
The simple pleasures of life are always within reach. I love that about my life.

And it's with the simple pleasures in life that make it all seem....worthwhile. :) I love geraniums...lot easier to grow than orchids ....
I like curvy and rounded shaped plants much better. I find boxy plants too obnoxious and I dont know why.
I have orchids Sally!!! My home office used to be used to raise orchids by the previous owner. Even has a spigot and drain in the tile floor and all the walls are 6 foot high windows. It's a room of glass, practically.
Loreena,
I would expect you to like more artistic arrangements. It suits your aura.
absolutely fantastic - the boxier the better..........every time i thinkof gereniums i think of my grandmother who always had red ones around her....(based on stories and photos).....
Interesting to see landscapes in other areas. Because of the dahlia show I wrote about recently, I want to go out and plant dahlias in my yard, but I need to see if I should wait until spring. They would be beautiful in your donut!
I love when I see the shrubs all nice and neat and shaped. We have a few ficus hedges but unfortunately I have to trim them and they are a lot of work!
ARDELLE, charming....I do much better with geraniums....I kill orchids even though I love them. When I first became garderner (in the learning stage)....I learned to take cuttings and grow geraniums....I've had a love affair with them every since and I also love boxwood. The formal look more so than the sculptured....I forget what they call it. Sweet post...made me feel good this am.
I like painting the cement. it gives a finished look to the walkway at very little expense. I always liked walkways that go around a tree or other planting.
That sounds wonderful!!! Your office has plenty of light and beauty ...cool.
My grandfather had boxwoods all around his house, and he spent many hours making them perfectly square. It was one of the things that he liked to do. I've never had a boxwood in any of my homes, but that might change soon.
