Fort Cascades, North Bonneville, Washington
Mike and I placed a geocache in Fort Cascades with a title that is so catchy and humorously "tongue in cheek" that it gets a lot of attention all year long.
We named it "Lewis and Clark waiting for the Train."(Geocaching is hunting for hidden treasures all over every state in America and all over the world. It's done with a hand-held GPS and you "take a treasure and leave a treasure.") But back to the Lewis and Clark Waiting for the Train. We placed it up in Fort Cascade up near the Bonneville Dam. Fort Cascades is a gorgeous 1.5 mile walk through level ground, with big rocks, towering fir trees and a breathtaking walk along the banks of the Columbia River. We get emails all the time thanking us for placing a nice geocache there. Fellow geocachers are happy to find new and interesting walks/hikes in places that most would never have discovered.
It's built between the present site of North Bonneville, Washington and the Bonneville Dam. As you walk the loop, you can enjoy a self-guided tour of the lifestyle of the people who lived and worked along the Columbia river. There was a lot of salmon fishing along the shores and also there was a famous "fish wheel" called, "the Warren Fish Wheel" located there. You'll have to take a nice afternoon trip up to Bonneville area and check out the remains of the old town of Fort Cascades.
