Olympia Area Favorites - Mud Bay Store

We have always had dogs and cats who are members of our family - so one of my favorite places in town is a pet food store called Mud Bay (www.mudbay.us)

A pretty exceptional company, Mud Bay began life when Elsa Wulff bought a small farm store called The Grainery in 1988. The store was located on Mud Bay Rd so became known as Mud Bay Grainery. Over the years, the store grew, specializing in healthy, natural foods and supplies for dogs and cats. They moved to a larger westside Olympia location on Harrison Ave. in 2002, and eventually dropped the Grainery (or Granary) from the name to be just Mud Bay Co. The business has grown and flourished, now having 14 stores including a second local one in Lacey, plus their own 30,000 square foot distribution center which opened in Olympia in 2007. Stores are all up and down the Puget Sound area into Seattle & Bellevue, but the business remains dedicated to providing the very best nutrition for dogs & cats. Mud Bay remains family owned and operated too, with Elsa's adult children part of the business now.

The company passion is research into dog and cat nutrition, the pet food industry and the companies that manufacture pet food. They stock only healthy, natural choices - more than 450 formulas and growing. The staff is all well trained to be able to help pet owners understand and choose foods for their dogs and cats that will improve and sustain their good health. And dogs and cats are welcome to come shopping with their owners, sampling various foods and treats available. If you choose to shop without your pet, you can still take home a new food knowing that if your dog or cat doesn't like it and won't eat it, you can bring it back for a full refund - nice to have that guarantee if you have picky eaters!!

Mud Bay also periodically mails out a newsletter/catalog that is always loaded with funny stories, amusing illustrations and great descriptions of food and toys for cats and dogs - our dog Daisy even made a story last issue telling about her favorite toy, her lamb!
