HAVE A WELL-MANAGED BUSINESS - HAVE A SELF-MADE PROMOTION!!

IN A WELL-MANAGED BUSINESS, ALL PROMOTIONS ARE SELF-MADE. THE EMPLOYER'S ONLY PART IN THE TRANSACTION IS TO CHECK CAREFULLY TO MAKE SURE THE PROMOTION WAS EARNED.

The perfect formula for destroying morale in any organization is to create a working environment that leads employees to believe that the only way to get ahead is by playing politics. The best-managed businesses are those in which every promotion is earned and every qualified person has an equal opportunity to compete for it. If you're a manager, weigh all decisions involving your employees on the basis of fairness. And if you aspire to be a manager, choose to work for a company that is fair in its treatment of workers. When you've earned your position, through skill and effectiveness, you have the best job security.

Being self-employed, we might not qualify for a promotion if we're happy with our job. My prior career in public and corporate accounting provided several promotions, but I was missing the gratification that comes from helping people. So I gave myself a new promotion into a new business better suited for me. As an investor, it made sense for me to become a loan officer with access to the best mortgage programs available. This has been the best promotion I ever earned!

Now that I am self-employed and love my job, there isn't a promotion opportunity available. Now I give myself rewards! Today, I will go enjoy some sunshine while boating on Lake Washington and sipping a cocktail.

What promotion and/or rewards have you done for yourself?

Cheers!

I agree that people do far better when they have a promotional prize or spiff to go after. It tends to increase sales for everyone because it creates ompetition(hopefully friendly). A great promotion is to offer vacations to the top producer. A poll by USA Today said that 93% of people prefer travel over any other incentive. So why not incentivize yourself or your employees with something like a cruise for 2 to the Grand Bahamas. Check out www.varcose.com to see how to do this the right way.

My children think the only reason I work is for us to go on vacation...my reward to all of us is our yearly family  vacation.  They never know when or where we'll end up  - but they start anticipating it as soon as school's out.

Other than that, I reward myself daily with a trip to Starbucks :)

Every once in a while I go out to a local ice cream place and get a soft serve cone with nuts...... they have THE BEST ice cream in the area!

It is not much... BUT it makes me smile and that is all I look for!!

The awards will get bigger as time goes on..... it's the little things that count right now!

=-)
