The first time home buyer tax credit expired April 30th, 2010 (with a few exceptions). The upswing in home sale activity shows that this incentive was effective in bringing buyers into the real estate market. If you plan on buying a home and you are kicking yourself because you did not take advantage of the $8,000 first time home buyer tax credit. STOP and look at the interest rates. On average, rates have gone down approximately 1/4 point since March. You can currently buy at $220,000 home for $30.00 a month less than had you been in the market to buy a house in March (like many first time tax credit seekers). Over a 30 year mortgage the current interest rates will save you nearly $11,000. The first time home buyer tax credit would have given you $8,000.
