Foothills Trail
The Foothills trail is made up of former Burlington Northern rail-bed lines stretching from Carbonado to Sumner, WA. Trail is a paved 12 foot wide path great for biking, in-line skating, horseback riding or just walking. Currently the trail is 15 miles long from the McMillin trail head east through Orting to South Prairie and continues south 4 miles to Van Lierops Bulb Farm. Future plans include taking the trail to the gates of Mt. Rainier National Park along the Carbon River and connecting the park to Tacoma's Puget Sound at Commencement Bay.

Howdy Debi
A fine post you did here.
Have a good one
Sounds like a fun place to take the bike and riiiidddeeee.
I had never heard of this trail before. Paved trails are great for people in wheelchairs, or for baby strollers.
Thanks for posting this.
Sandy
Rails to Trails is a really great program and the Foothills trail is a good example of how it works.
Sandy -
The Orting trail is very simular to those in Thurston County. Also there is a trail that goes out to Woodard Bay to an old lumber mill.
Debi
Debi,
Thanks for the great post. It actually helped me write something new about the Olympic Peninsula. My blog, about the Olympic Discovery Trail is all thanks to you. :) I'll keep these trails you mentioned in mind when my husband and Harley are looking for new places to scooter.
Kathy
Kathy,
Glad to help out. It's always fun to discover new trails.
Debi - thank you for sharing. I would love to see an expansion to Mt. Ranier. This sounds similar to our Burke-Gilman Trail around Lake Washington.
Yes indeed it is... very similar to the Burke-Gilman Trail. I haven't been there... YET...
We have the trans Canada trail - Made from old train beds mainly. - But improved surface. ...I think only 10 ft. wide but great for running and biking. Quite a controversy over the use of ATV's or not .
Paul - I thinks ATV's should be used on true off-road conditions... alot of horses use the trails.... the ATV's can spook 'em. Thanks!
