Bainbridge Island: Favorite Restaurants Part 2 of 3

Best Coffee Place:

Pegasus
131 Parfitt Way SW
(206) 842-6725

The Pub owners (Harbour Public House) bought this coffee hideaway next to Docs and has expanded their offerings with more live music events (Friday and Saturday evenings), a broader selection of food and the addition of wine, beer and cocktails! A great place for breakfast meetings or a coffee clutch.

Best Latte on Bainbridge

Commuter Comforts (at the Ferry)
701 Winslow Way E
Bainbridge Isle, WA 98110-2416
(206) 842-8008

This tiny place has long lines that move incredibly quick for a reason: they make what we think is the best latte on Bainbridge, hands down.

Best Bakery:

Blackbird Bakery
210 Winslow Way E
(206) 780-1322

Long-time Islanders are more likely to say Bainbridge Bakers is the best and indeed it has great sandwiches, scrumptious treats and hearty soup. But Blackbird (former workers at BB I believe) make some great soups of their own and at a great price with a chunk of bread for under $5 (soups can be hit or miss, though). My wife gets a piece of the multi grain bread and I get the roll. We think their cakes are the Island's best and a great choice to share at a function when you are too tired to bake yourself. Their scones, cookies, etc. are very all excellent. Warning: cash only (but two bank ATMs across the street)!

Best Hidden dining spot:

New Rose Cafe
9415 Miller Rd NE
206-842-4438

This lunch spot is hidden inside Bainbridge Gardens, part of our rich history on Bainbridge. The Harui Family (Junkoh passed last year) is headed by Chris (his wife) and daughter Donna (who runs the place now). It is a treasure of plants, water features, sculptures and a great little place for sandwiches at their Cafe. People forget about this restaurant as a place to eat but it is excellent.

Other notables:

These choices (from Part 1 and 2) are not to say that Cafe Nola or Shima are not great restaurants, because they are and we like them too. But if we have a choice in today's economy, we'd rather go to the places that give incredible value (great portions) and dependable service. And to be honest, we dine at Wing Point regularly where we think we get this every time (kudos to Katie, the new executive chef, Leo and the entire team). You just have to be members to diner at Wing Point, but well worth it in our view.

Final Confession: We have not been to the three newbies - Hitchcock's (which we hear has great food but the portions are too small for the big price), Local Harvest (Kristi Nelson at RE/MAX recently gushed about the food and its value) and Arbutus (which appears to have a dearth of reviews).
