5,700 More Active Duty Soliders to Arrive at Joint Base Lewis-McChord by 2015

In a story published today, the Army plans to add up to 5,700 active-duty soldiers at Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Tacoma.

That would bring the number of active-duty soliders at Joint Base Lewis-McChord to nearly 36,000. (And that number does not include Air Force or other service members.)

The Army projects that more than 8,000 family members will accompany the new soldiers with an estimated 2,770 more children that will enter the local schools such as Clover Park and Steilacoom. With the soldiers is a new bill working it's way through Congress that would include the building of four new elementary schools at Lewis-McChord!

So what this means for our local Tacoma economy is that not only do we have thousands of families moving to the Fort Lewis / McChord Air Force Base area that will need homes- but we will also have hundreds of construsction jobs! I think this is great news!
