How $10 could make your Christmas Dinner 3x as enjoyable... Are you covered in Green Fur?

food banks, Marines toys for tots, donations

If you still want to enjoy your Christmas Dinner and not spend $10 or more you should probably disregard the following information. Why? Because unless you’re the Grinch before the growth in heart size you’ll feel guilty and insecure about your Holiday Meal. This isn’t simply a Public Service announcement but an attempt to remind people of what they already know but put aside at Christmas when they should be embracing the thought BECAUSE it’s Christmas. It’s called Hunger… No I’m not talking about the stomach twinges you get thinking about the Thanksgiving leftovers in the refrigerator. I’m talking about the Hunger experienced by millions around the world who look to food banks when they or their children have nothing on the table. Let’s be realistic about this too… It’s a recession which you can read about on the thousands of other blogs floating about. You obviously have a computer, with internet connection, and a job… ergo you probably have $10 you could put towards a bag of food for a local food bank. In Economic times like these when unemployment’s extremely high they need even more help to feed twice as many people. The BIG problem is when our wallets and bank accounts get smaller we tend to withdraw and neglect donating all to mitigate gift purchases for people (that let’s be honest) wouldn’t miss getting a few dollars less spent on them and probably wouldn’t notice. The same could be said for our kids. How many toys does a kid really need to enjoy Christmas? 1… 2… 10? Imagine if everyone took one $5 toy to the Marines Toy’s for Tot’s?

So the objections?

  1. I don’t have time…” For the delivery or the shopping? Are you seriously saying you’ll never see the inside of a grocery store within the next week? How long does it take throw some non perishables in a basket and pay? Just about every Grocery Store has food bank donation stations set-up at the entry points. Look for the oversized box or large barrel labeled FOOD BANK DONATION.
  2. I forgot...” I don’t even need to illiterate on this excuse because if you’re the person making it I’m sure even you know it’s pathetic. Bell Ringers, Marine’s guarding toy caches, and food bank donation stations set-up EVERYWHERE… Unless your deaf and blind in which case you’re unlikely reading this anyways.
  3. I don’t know where to go…” Seriously? They make a tool on the internet called Google®. In the search bar type “Food Bank in (your city)” and see what results. If you live in Kitsap, Pierce, or Mason County here in Washington then click here for a list of food bank information in your area.

As you read along and mumble under your breath “where does this guy get off…” I’ll ad more discomfort and give you my strategy for maximizing my abilities even though I too have felt the pinch in a down market. My offer:

If you live in Kitsap or Pierce County, I will personally pick-up and deliver any food or toy donations on your behalf. Furthermore, if you are that busy that you can’t find the time to shop and aren’t willing to give your secretary the 30 minutes to do it for you, then give me the $10 and I will do the shopping for you and bring you the receipt. No excuses just answers.

So… What are you offering this year? Spread a little less cheeselog and a little more Holiday Spirit...
