Home Prices vs Wages

While doing my daily reading I came across an article in the WAR magazine. It was rather interesting. According to WAR, home prices have increased 81% in the past 10 years while wages have only increased 37%! That's a huge gap! It certainly explains why we are in an affordable housing crisis.

It was reported in the Seattle Timeslast week that the median price home in the City of Seattle had reached more then $500,000 and to live on the eastside of Lake Washington, known as the Eastside you'd have to pay an astounding $640,000+. Those numbers put many would be home buyers way out of the buying market.

It's a shame that our hard working blue collar workers cannot achieve the American Dream of home ownership. The Washington Association of Realtors is urging all agents in the area to contact our lawmakers to help with the affordable housing crisis. We all need to act now to help those in need and prevent traffic congestion and overcrowding in the outlying areas and stagnant growth in the city.

These statistics are very sad and a major reason why I decided to get into the Mortgage industry.  I just wish I would have known about it 5 years sooner.  To be able to afford a place to live and have a life in this area is nearly impossible on two incomes let alone one.

Geoff you are so right.  It has become very difficult to have a nice home in this area and maintain a wonderful quality of life.  So many hours are spent commuting, working then commuting back home, many families are losing precious time.  Even eastern Washington has seen their prices spike.  Thanks for commenting and welcome to AR!
