The Seattle "Street of Dreams" for 2008 was Set on Fire This Morning--Update 3/4/08

WOODINVILLE, Wash. (AP) - Crews battled fires early Monday at four multimillion-dollar show homes in the Maltby area north of Woodinville, and a sign with the initials of a radical environmental group was found at the scene, an official said. The sign, which had the initials of the Earth Liberation Front, mocked claims the luxury homes on the "Street of Dreams" were environmentally friendly.

This really is a shame. The Seattle Street of Dreams is an annual event where top builders, architects, landscapers and designers show case their work. They pick an undeveloped area each year and create a little neighborhood. There are usually up to six very high end homes to tour.

"The Seattle Street of Dreams has supported Children's Home Society of Washington since our initial show in 1984. We continue supporting CHSW's goal of "turning hope into reality" by donating 100% of all proceeds from our Street of Dreams Charity Benefit held each year. By attending our event, you assist those children and families in need throughout the State of Washington."

The story was on the radio when I woke up and you can read about it on KOMOTV.COM

The Seattle Times has their article about this on the front page today "Hunt is on Who Torched the Street of Dreams?"

It is amazing to me that anyone would think that burning down houses is an effective way to further their cause.

Absolutely senseless. I remember hearing of this group a few years ago, but didn't know they were still in existence. It's a shame they resort to arson and damaging the environment when there are so many other non-destructive ways to bring attention to a cause.

Hi Debra and John,

These folks do so much damage when they do these things, i.e. smoke in the air, board feet of lumber that is reflected in the number of trees, all of the water that is used to put the fires out.  Too bad they don't rethink their approach.  Thank you for reading and writing.

Hi Lanette,  I do hope they catch them all--and soon.  Thank you for writing.
