I feel like I won the lottery, but it's just a QUAIL NEST IN MY SIDE YARD! I feel like I am getting ready for my first GRANDKIDS. YES that's right! There are 12 of them I believe! I will keep you updated when the darling dozen start darting around my yard trying to aviod my CAT!
Here is mama quail sitting on her nest...Shhhhhh....Mama is busy doing NOTHING!
We spotted the nest when Mama was away, and it is so perfectly formed with 12 creamy white eggs. If you haven't observed baby quail, they are the most adorable things! Ah the simple pleasures of Summer in The Northwest!

BethAnn, Liked the picture of the quail. I don't see that type here in the east, and do not get to see too many ground nesters except killdeer. Thanks for sharing.
Here in Las Vegas, we have lots in the more rural areas - my in-laws live on a 1/2 acre of purely desert landcape, and they enjoy watching their quail and bunnies immensely. I have to agree that baby quail are about the cutest, tiniest baby birds ever! I think Mom n Dad said they have about three coveys living out of one of their cacti in the far corner. My father in-law has gone so far as to start feeding them, much to my dismay. They are really lovely birds.
What a great piece of nature just sitting in your side yard. Here is Missouri we have pushed wildlife further and further into the farmlands.
That is very lucky indeed! Can't wait for pictures of the babies.
