Has Cancer Touched You? It Has Touched Me!

As a cancer survivor myself, this touches me as close as it possibly could. Not only am I a survivor, I have lost many family members and friends to this horrible disease.

10 Years ago, I finished my treatment for Hodgkin's Disease. Today I stand clean and clear. I am thankful to be here today. Unfortunately, not all are as fortunate as I have been. There is still so much to be done in research and development.

Some of you can do a little, some of you can do a lot. If each of us did something, the results would be off the charts! Please consider skipping a few drinks at Starbucks, a few lunches out, a round of golf or whatever thing you can think of to help raise funds! I promise you will feel better for it! I thank each of you from the bottom of my heart with whatever amount you can give!

Potential giving is off the charts. As I write this there are over 2,700 "Online Now". What if each of the 2,700 were to give only $10? What kind of an impact would that make? Skip a lunch and a coffee and together raise over $27,000 in just minutes! Imagine if that were to happen...

Go here to help!

Pressing on together toward a cure!

Wow, it is terrible and we should all do what we can.  I lost my dad to Ahlzheimers and I heard about some major weapons to knock it out yesterday.  Soon they'll get a better handle on cancers.

Glad you're still with us!  Yes, we should all do what we can.  I've lost friends and loved ones too.

Dale, very glad you beat this. I had melanoma surgery 2 months ago - they got it all. Lost my mother to cancer in December.

I soooo want to kick cancer's [deleted] for what it's done to you and so many others.  Together, I hope we can.

This is one of the most powerful Real Estate Shows I have EVER seen.  Thank you for sharing it.

Dale,

Cancer has touched my life. The only way it will be stopped is if enough people like you have the courage to step up and fight it head on. I agree with Sarah, powerful stuff!!

I almost need to leave the office and go hug my son...........thanks you for sharing this with us.

Dale: My father's first wife was lost to Hodgkin's Disease in 1946, I lost both parents to Cancer, & my first wife is fighting Breast Cancer. Your successful battle is an inspiration my young friend!

I am so glad you my friend are a Survivor.

There is HOPE! Thank you for sharing this today Dale, it has and will change lives!  The video was short and powerful with a great message. You got my $10.00.  :-)

Cancer touches every family in some way or another. Good to know you are a survivor. My Dad was the strongest man I know and I watched helplessly all the way to the end. People like you inspire me.

My wife is a cancer survivor of 19 years, 3 battles, and lots of tears.  Each day is a good day

Dale-I have and am touched by cancer.  Not myself but some very important people to me who I really love deeply.  I am with you my friend!  Those that are struck... suffer like no one could ever understand.  I do believe in my heart we are very close to a cure..sometimes I sit and wonder why ??????? there is no cure.

You have no idea how many hours I spend on the net..trying to understand why we have no cure????  Because just like so many others..desperation sets in and a real thirst for knowledge.  Because when one thing fails we try another.

It's just like Russ said everyday is a good day!  Every day is a gift.  I am happy you are here today and sharing this important message. It's the reminder there is hope..and I have faith..and I think we have to help the cure along!

I am sending you xoxoxoxo's because this message has really important meaning.

Dale, the video of your beautiful family speaks volumes about how lucky you are to be a survivor, and how important it is to find the cure. I was a child when I lost my mom to pancreatic cancer.

Hi Dale ... My husband completed chemo for Hodgkins about three weeks ago and is cancer free.  We pray that he stays this way.  Thanks for sharing your story and doing your part to help.

Dale, Beautiful family and beautiful positive post about your bout with Hodgkin's. My wonderful husband of 40 years has been having a series of  challenges. He was diagnosed in 2002 with liposarcoma and given a zero chance of survival. Here we are six years later...and very thankful!!

Congratulations on your survivorship.  Cancer has no discrimination.  I admire you for writing this blog--Great job.

Congratulations!!!! You beat it and you're a survivor!  I lost my sister at 38 years old to ovarian cancer and I lost my dear sweet mother one year ago to ovarian cancer for the second time.  My mother beat ovarian cancer the first time in her 50's (later) and then the second go around was hard on her in her 60's.   GREAT story and BEAUTIFUL family!!

All the Best...stay happy and healty!

Dale, Thank you for sharing. You are one of the miracles! As you know my husband is a cancer survivor. I didn't know him during his treatment but I am so glad he is a miracle too! The treatment did cause his infertility and some days just doesn't seem fair - but we are so thankful for life.

Dale you are a survivor. I think you have a really great idea. Cancer has touched my life in so many ways from family to friends. Here is a link to another blog here on Active Rain that Im a committee member on. CaringRealtors.org We are also raising funds and awareness to support a fellow Realtor going thru a difficult time with cancer.

Congraulations....we know and have lost people to the fight...and know some still just beginning. We recently sponsored a hole at a golf outing for patients and their families ...a support group...it isn't just the research that is important as you know...it is the assistance in dealing with the whole disease and all the people it affects.

Dale - This was a touching post, and I applaud your courage in sharing this.  I wrote pretty extensively about my very good friend who died of throat/neck cancer in March.  My mother-in-law is a four-time cancer survivor, which still strikes me as a miracle.  I will definitely check out the link.  I don't have a lot of extra money at the moment, but I will give something.

(06/28/08 01:00PM) — Dale Chumbley

Sally & David, Way to go sponsoring the golf hole! That is great. You are correct, the support facet of this is also so incredibly important!

Jason, I'm sorry for your loss and thankful for the miracle of your mother-in-law. As I've said, if everyone does even a little it adds up to a lot! Whatever you can give is MOST appreciated!

Dale this is great. Thanks for sharing this with us!! And I am happy to hear you are still CLEAN and CLEAR of it!!!!!!

(06/28/08 03:27PM) — Dale Chumbley

Jeannette, You are welcome! Thankful that I have had the opportunity to be able to meet so many of you online. Wish that even more patients will become survivors! Think about how many people we do not get to meet in our life because of cancer.

Dale-You brought tears to my eyes. What a beautiful video and I'm sorry you ever had to experience cancer, but so thankful for you and your family that you made it!

I lost my Father and my Grandmother to the "C" word. I HATE it...my Aunt is a breast cancer survivor. You can bet I give give give!  It scares me so much at times.  Thank you for sharing a piece of your heart with us.

(06/28/08 10:08PM) — Keith Duncan, Realtor Augusta, GA

Great show Dale! Congratulations on beating that s###!

I lost my father to Cancer 22 years ago and lost a brother-in-law to Lymphoma 17 years ago. He was 44 years old and had a 1 month old son and two other young kids when he died. My brother survived colon cancer, my mother survived a low grade Lymphoma and my older sister had skin Cancer.

I have worked with the local board for our Relay for the past 5 years including one year as co-captain and 1 year as captain. I also volunteered for a committee for an ACS golf tournament for the past 3 years and was chairman last year.

Dale,    Nice work, and what a beautiful family too.

Jessie-Joy and I have been battling her cancer for over 6 years now.  She just refuses to let it get her down.  Plus she is standing on her amazing faith in God.

Thank you for supporting the research.  As our oncologist said last week, "we are racing with the research." In other words we are using up the new medicines and procedures as fast as they can be invented and designed.   Everyone who donates gives my wife another chance.

Elizabeth, Here's a tissue! I'm sorry for your losses and thankful for your survivor! Thank you for giving and doing what you can.

Keith, Like so many we have our losses. I'm sorry for yours! I'm also thankful for your survivors. Celebrate them! Your time serving on Relay For Life is so appreciated. As funds are raised, cancer gets kicked more and more! Keep up the work!

Gary, Thank you. I am sorry you guys are suffering through the battle. Prayer and family support carried us through our time and I'm glad it is there for you too. Your oncologist is right... "We are racing with the research" and we need the research to be ahead of us in this race! I hope and pray that this message carries with it exactly what you say... "EVERYONE WHO DONATES GIVES MY WIFE (HUSBAND, SON, DAUGHTER, MOM, DAD, AUNT, UNCLE, FRIEND, FELLOW REALTOR...) ANOTHER CHANCE"!!!

Please follow the link and give what you can! It is for all of our loved ones! You can also send a check to the American Cancer Society to my business address if you would rather.

I just came across this blog today and it's wonderful to see how much support you have with your family and friends. I'm very proud of the fact that you help put a voice to such a terrible disease. Cancer does suck!! I have to look in the eyes of my 11 year old and tell her that her malignant brain tumor has grown for the first time in 3 years. I have to be her advocate and I donate to brain cancer research every chance I get.

Our Re/max office hosts an annual "Little Miracles" auction every year and the proceeds go to our local Children's Hospital and a portion goes towards Pediatric Brain Cancer Research. If you want to check out the website for that you can at www.littlemiraclesauction.com.

Thank you for sharing your story and I will pray for your continued success!!!
