The End of an Era.
Today, the Seattle Post Intelligencer has printed the last edition of a newspaper that has been in existence since 1863. The front page says, "You've meant the world to us".
There are two newspapers in Seattle. The Times and the P.I. (short for Post Intelligencer).
The P.I. is known for it's big globe statue that graced the roof of the building that housed it. Having two local newspapers has been rough for the P.I. and it could not survive this economy - losing 8 million dollars last year alone.
My grandma used to take the P.I. When I was a little girl I used to love to read the Funnies, and Dear Abby with her.
I like to read, and I like to read the newspaper, but I haven't had a subscription for years.
I am saddened by the loss of the Seattle Post Intelligencer. Sad too, for those reporters and employees that have lost their jobs. Only a few dozen will remain employed by the online version of this news.
I love my online news too.
Out with the old and in with the new.
