Neighbors Helping Neighbors in Pullman Washington

Our power here in Pullman Washington just went out for a few minutes both at my house and one of my listings across town. The power is now back up thank goodness and temperatures are mild so I suspect there will be no concerns, but it does bring to mind the importance of good neighbors and how we must watch out for each other.

Regardless of whether you have your home on the market or planning on a trip out of town, you need to leave a key with a trusted neighbor. That way if the power does go out, you have someone who can easily check on your home for you.

As a Realtor®, I check pretty regularly on my listings. But I often don’t know when the power goes out in another part of town. That is where a neighbor is tremendously helpful. Besides, in adverse conditions, they can probably get to the home and check it out more efficiently than I might be able to do.

Neighbors helping neighbors. It really is a system that can’t be beat. I remember fondly when I helped one of my neighbors sell a home after the passing on his parents. They were a dear elderly couple that welcomed us in the neighborhood. When they passed off the scene, their son enlisted my help to sell their home. I fondly remember him giving me the keys to my house, that his parents had. Now of course, those were old keys with licks changed many times over long ago, but in their day everyone in the neighborhood had keys to selectively given to trusted neighbors. It is a principle that we should strive emulate. And we will all be the better for it....
