Foursquare’n

I think I’m getting a complex. The other day Foursquare was getting me down. Now I totally get the opportunity for fun and interaction with people via updating your location and it’s good for your SEO, but lately it’s choking my Blackberry 8330... Yes, I know. How can any self respecting social media guy like me even survive with that antiquated old piece of dinosaur? But, it’s paid for, and I’m anxiously holding out for a Droid 4g.

If I’m lucky, I just get a “too many threads” error and back out. If not the phone freezes and I have to remove the battery to reboot and wait 10+ minutes for everything to come back up, then answer all of the obligatory Q & A from all the services. It happens about once a week when I’m using the camera (which most of you know I do a lot), and I get a call and a Foursquare update comes in. That’s when I stare and swear, impatiently pushing keys to no avail...

My other gripe about Foursquare is you, yes my dear friends who use Foursquare a lot. I know better, but sometimes I must say, I get a tad jealous. "Are all of you guy’s like independently wealthy or something?"

Here I am at the office all day holding down my desk (and yes I have a wonderful view), but some days, I admit, it just seems like - all you do is check into the most absolutely coolest places, one after another everyday! "Did I miss the directions and I've been standing in the wrong line for a really long time?

The Inn at the Market for morning coffee and a croissant, then the Chocolate Box, Nordstom’s, The Apple Store, The Palace Kitchen for lunch, The Olympic Hotel (A meeting I’m guessing. You do work, right?), Daniel’s Broiler for happy hour, then Red Fin’s for dinner and winding up the day at Molly Moon’s for ice cream, then finally @home.

The next morning I’m up at 5:30 am. I look at my phone and see you’ve checked in at Seatac Airport. A little later I check in at the office (Yay, I’m the mayor!). You’ve landed in San Francisco, catch a cab, check into the hotel, then off to conference. I check in at Louisa’s on the corner for a blueberry scone. Then you’re off to lunch on the Wharf, later a little bar hopping with friends, site seeing and dinner.

“Hey, hey. Your friend Bob checked in @ the Fleur De Lys (777 Sutter Street San Francisco) at 6:30 pm … Swing by and say hi!”

You bet Bob, I’ll do that.

Before I leave the office I do a quick look at Facebook to make sure I didn’t miss any communique and you’re all there. “Let the virtual high five’n and poke'n begin!” Then before I shut it down, Google +... Yep, there you are!

As if insult to injury you're all tweeting the conversation including pictures of each other having a fabulous time, the mouth watering food, your giant mojito, and the beautiful surroundings. It’s not all Foursquare’s fault I know. I do share the blame with the other platforms.

I'm driving home channel flipping NPR stations (forgot my iPod and CD’s). With nothing on except bad news, I turn it off. Back in Renton I check into the cleaners to pick up my shirts (Foursquare can’t find it), the Safeway store for a few groceries, the Chevron Station for gas (Foursquare can’t find it), and McLendon Hardware for a 3 way light bulb and a bookshelf bracket.

“Whoa there cowboy, now that’s quite a bit a Foursquare’n excitement for one day!”

Putting my groceries away I see my friend Randy checked in at Taco Bell downtown Renton. Now that, I can relate to. :O)
