Do I Have to Kick Down the Door?

Hello Everyone,

So I am showing homes to buyers over the last couple of weeks and amazingly enough I would say that 3 out of 10 homes we see, we couldn't get into because the key wouldn't work. I tried and tried and even bent one key and tore the metal on the other.

This may seem like fundamentals, but don't you try the key before you put it in the lockbox when listing the property. I do this but obviously others don't. You wonder why there is no showings and the home has been on the market for over 100 days.

As I am sitting there with the buyers and their baby out in the cold fighting with the key, I have to inform them that Bob Smith agent didn't check the key and we can't get in. It is a waste of their time and my time to drive out unload and stand in the cold only to have to get back in the car and leave. Overcoming the annoyance and anger would be hard to do even if the agent then made us drive out again to look at the home.

Managing the simple details like this is what we do for our clients. I tell stories like this during the listing presentation because it just shows that there is no guarantee for service and sometimes people who don't manage the details can cost you sales.

By the way, I called the agents left them a message and haven't got a call back from any of them. The least they could do is follow up since they would have a potential buyer who wanted to see their home, but success leaves clues and so does failure. The sad part is their seller will never know that their agents mismanagement is costing them sales.
