On Friday morning, May 8, 2009 you are in for a treat! The riders with the Kyle Petty Charity Ride will begin their cross-country journey in Stevenson, Washington. At 7:30 a.m. over 120 motorcyclists will leave the Skamania Lodge and travel on Highway 14 through Stevenson. They will turn down Columbia Ave. to First St. then back to the highway and head towards the Bridge of the Gods. There will be U.S. flags out to greet the riders compliments of the Lion's Club.
Kyle Petty, NASCAR driver and trip founder, will lead the group which will also include Stevenson's Mayor Dave McKenzie and some other celebrities such as NFL star Herschel Walker and pro golfer Davis Love. This two-week trip is a fundraiser for Victory Junction which is a camp for chronically ill children in North Carolina.
The students at Wind River Middle School will be donating the proceeds from their next dance to the cause. Students and staff from Stevenson Elementary School have created wonderful cards welcoming the participants to Stevenson.
