Dane County foreclosures up 19% in January

Dane County foreclosures increased by 19% in January, and remain high by historical standards. This graph shows the number of Dane County foreclosures filed in every January dating back to 2004. The 148 foreclosures filed in January of 2012 were up 244% from the 43 foreclosures filed in January of 2004.

We won't be surprised if foreclosure filings rise in 2012. It could be some of the big banks are stepping up the foreclosure process once again, after a slowing down resulting from the "robo-signing" scandal. For example, Bank of America Countrywide (BAC) has had at least 40 foreclosure filings for 3 straight months.
