| History | Concordia was once the home to many of Milwaukee's elite and city planners. With large mansions and stately homes, Concordia was truly one of Milwaukee's grandest neighborhoods. The neighborhood used to be home to Concordia College (now named Concordia University), which moved its campus to Mequon in the 1983. The former campus, which still stands, features some beautiful campus buildings from the early 20th Century.
The architecture of Concordia consists of Queen Anne, Gothic, and Prairie Style homes. Most of the homes are large, with several magnificent-sized homes scattered throughout. Like many urban neighborhoods, Concordia experienced a decline following the Great Depression when many of the large mansions were turned into rooming houses or were razed. In the 50's and 60's many more mansions were razed to make way for large apartment complexes. These apartment buildings stand out as examples of poor urban planning experiments of the mid century. During the 1980's a group of neighbors established the Historic Concordia Neighbors, which signaled the revitalization of the neighborhood. This neighborhood association, which is still active today, was one of the first neighborhood associations in Milwaukee. Today, it is not hard to find examples of restored houses and families mingling in the streets of Concordia. In addition, with the establishment of a bed and breakfast district in 2000, Concordia has become the home of several wonderful bed and breakfasts. The future of the Historic Concordia neighborhood looks bright. Along with continued renovations of homes, North 27th Street (SOHI), the commercial district immediately to the east of Concordia, is seeing a revival and an influx of federal and local dollars. |

House Prices |
Single family homes are generally priced between $100,000 and $250,000, but the mansions will run you considerably more, up to $500,000 for a 8 bedroom, seven bath Bed and Breakfast. Some of the homes need work, but they are generally some of the best built homes in the city, traditionally designed by well-known Milwaukee architects and built by top-notch contractors. If you can't find the home for you in Concordia, you can create it! There are still a handful rooming houses, duplexes, and 'fixer uppers' in Concordia that are prime candidates for single family conversion. In addition, the neighboring Cold Spring Park neighborhood has many quality homes ready for an owner's touch. For a complete list of homes, email me today. |

| Amenities | One of the greatest advantages of Concordia is its proximity to downtown, Marquette, and freeways. In only a couple of minutes, a resident is downtown, on Marquette's campus, or on their way to a west suburb. Definitely convenient.
There are several restaurants within close proximity to Concordia, most of which are near the Marquette University campus. Try Angelo's for Pizza (yes, they even deliver) or the Dawg House for a Chicago style hot dog. In addition, the Ambassador Hotel, located at 24th and Wisconsin (just east of Concordia), has a great restaurant, coffee shop, and cocktail lounge with streetside seating. Absolutely one of the finest additions to the West Side and the city as a whole. |
