The Monticello Ponies Season is coming to an end. The season always starts with high hopes and possibilities of being number one. As the season progresses they all improve and and instead of all the basketball plays in their head softball seems to be all they are thinking. We are enjoying watching them think the game of softball instead of just playing it. It is certainly a difference between thinking the game and just going out to just play.
Explaining to my daughter Mersadi that anyone can really go out and play the game but if you really want to be good you must understand and master the game better than anyone That involves thinking instead of planning your evening after the game or your homework assignment that you have to stay up all night doing.
I dont think she really understood until she went Sliding into Second. She usually slides head first but chose to slide feet first this time. As above you can see what happened. Coliding with the bag and the opposing teams shortstop. We talked awhile in the emergency room and the lessons of life in sports. Very hard for a Junior to understand that life is not fair and sometimes we are taking out of the game by choice and sometimes not by choice. Being Mersadi's favorite and best sport she learned that even though she might not get to play the game she still had to plan and condition and lift weights and workout a lot to get to the level of play she wanted to be at. I looked at her and said " Guess what Honey, even though you think you worked out and condtioned harder than ever this last year and you feel cheated that you only got to play three games this year. It was still worth every minute of sweat to get there."
Did she get it? No...but trying. I give her incentives and motivational speeches to keep her positive while she heals. I treat her to ice cream because sometime ice cream just seems to help. We talk about her goals for next years season as a shortstop and what she can do to improve her game. We discuss how sometimes watching the game and watching others play will make you think the game of softball and you will get better.
Does this remind us of real estate? We plan and plan and plan to make our game better. We do everything we are suppose to do. We watch the competition to get better than what we are. We think our way through our game plan to sell or buy a house. But........But.......and But......not always to we get the end result that we have hoped for.
Even though we do not always get what we hoped for. I would say that all the education, blogging, technology talks and just the fundamentals of real estate (as I say , all the sweat) is completely worth it.
Go Ponies....
