The Putnam Animal Relief Center

Click Here for a 60 Second Show about PARC Pets

Putnam Animal Relief Center is currently trying to raise funds for improvements to the shelter and hopes to collect enough money to enlarge or completely rebuild. Our shelter is badly undersized for the population of our county. In order to serve the needs of this community, the size of the shelter needs to be doubled. The building was constructed 22 years ago as a temporary structure meant to last just two years while the "real" shelter was built. We are 20 years late but the time is now! Any help you can provide is greatly appreciated.

If you can donate time, money or supplies, please contact the Putnam Animal Relief Center at (304) 586-0249 or visit them at 1 Sabre Road in Winfield, WV. (Located behind Winfield Middle School.) I'd like to encourage all residents of Putnam County who have used this service to contribute in their pet's honor or memory.

Thank you for your support!

Thanks Gary, Deborah, Jeff and Kristie!  I used to volunteer at this shelter walking dogs, photographing all the animals and putting them on the website.  This was my transition from full time Mom to working Mom, and I'm so glad I gave the time rather than jumping right into working again.  It was great exercise and it came with it's own built in reward with every wag of the tail.  Still, it's not for everyone because of the heartbreak, not all of them get homes.  I tried to tell myself that my job was just to make them happy while I was there.  It was very rewarding.  I try to help out now by putting information about the shelter on all the websites I build.

I lost my pet of 14 years back in July. It was very hard to accept. 1st thought I would  wait a year or more before finding another. But I decided that she had given me such companionship that the right thing to do was find another dog with simular charactristics. So long story short I found a border collie in one of the animal rescue groups called "Forgotten Friends". We instantly bonded and that was about two weeks after my longtime companion had passed. I'm glad I didn't wait as now I have another companion and she definetely needed someone as well.

I do exactly the same thing, Danny.  I deal with the death of a pet by granting another needy one a home.  I'm glad you found a rescue pet that needed you as much as you needed her.  Thanks for sharing!

That was fabulous. Those eyes...oh those eyes! What a great thing you are doing and for such a super cause.

I love finding animal-lovers!  I think so many people just don't care about them, and it's a real shame.  It really says a lot about you and how compassionate you must be.

That's a great idea about posting the photos of the animals on your site.  I'd love to do something like that here.  I'll check into it and let you know how it turns out.  Thanks for a great idea!  That's an easy thing all of us can do.

Ok, I clicked off your newest post about realestateshow ideas.  This one really yanked at my heart strings!  What a wonderful idea!  I hope it helps the shelter and those beautiful wet nosed critters.
