Why I Love Laramie - unexpected moose babies!

(Post #8 in the "Why I Love Laramie" series)

Any of you who have seen Sarah Palin's Alaska will know that there are some of us who enjoy the simpler things in life. Hanging out with our families, the great outdoors, playing on our computers or just renting movies to watch with the kids. We're the ones that wait six months to see a movie on DVD rather than pay big bucks at the theater. Others may find us uninspired or even, gasp, dull. But never fear, there is a place for everybody in this world. That is why this blog series is titled "Why I love Laramie"..... For every ordinary thing that I love, there will be something completely different that someone else loves. As such here are some things that other people love or like to do around here:

  • Attend University of Wyoming sporting events - we have some of the most faithful fans anywhere!
  • Go Snowmobiling in the Snowy Range - there are miles and miles of roads to ride on.
  • Hunting big game - some locals hunt enough big game to feed their families all year long. And my really frugal friend cuts it all up and freezes it herself. There are places that will do it for you, you know!
  • We are a one high school town. So even people without kids will sometimes go to cheer on the home team since there's no worrying about which school to root for!
  • Experience the night Life - mmmm, maybe not in an upscale way - but I'm pretty sure you would feel safe in any bar in town. (We don't call them "clubs". They're bars, plain and simple.)

And back to one of the experiences that made our day a few years back, another "I Love Laramie" moment. We were driving out by the old Happy Jack Ski Area (about 15 miles east of town) looking for a hiking trail when we came upon these twin moose babies shoulder high in a marsh by a log. Then the log moved and we saw it was their mama . She wasted no time gently herding them off into the denser brush and away from their human intruders.

See, it is beautiful in the summer. Almost makes you forget about days like today (Temperature- 1 degree!)
