When you picture your dream mountain cabin, do you imagine a beautiful, treed setting, with privacy and seclusion? Do you want to be able to sleep in , without being awakened by the sound of traffic or noisy tourists? Is being close to the lake and National Forest important. If the answer to these questions is yes, then Fawnskin is the place for you. Located on The North Shore of Big Bear Lake, Fawnskin , while only a 15 minute drive from downtown and skiing , is a beautiful gem of a community off of the beaten path. Since most visitors to Big Bear drive over the dam, to get to The South Shore where the ski resorts and downtown are located, Fawnskin doesn't get anywhere near the same amount of traffic.
Hunters who arrived in the area in the late 1800's named it Fawnskin due to the deer skins they observed being dried out on racks in the sun. In fact, Fawnskin is home to some of the oldest structures in the valley. Pederson Saw Mill and The Old Post Office add a great deal of character to the area. Several hiking and biking trails have their starting points in Fawnskin, and if you want to go 4-wheeling or exploring, the entrance to Holcomb Valley is located at the North end of town. Another unique feature of the area is the Bald Eagle Habitat located along the lake shore. Every October the eagles return to the valley and can be easily spotted in the trees lining the lake shore.
Fawnskin is also home to some of the best lake-views in the Big Bear Valley. Since many of the homes are located on the mountain side, facing the lake, unobstructed lake-views are easily found. In addition to the lake, you are also treated to breath taking views and San Gorgonio Mountain and the ski slopes. Fawnskin is definitely a tight knit community where many of the neighbors are on a first name basis and it is not uncommon to get a " Hello" from many of its inhabitants. In addition, one of the best breakfasts in Big Bear is served up daily by Chef Richard at The North Shore Cafe. You will be amazed by the quality of the food put out by this little out of the way Cafe.
On the practical side, Fawnskin Real Estate has really held its value. Since it is such a unique and sought after location, the prices have remained steady, and demand constant. I would definetly recommend a cabin in Fawnskin as a good investment for the future. If this sounds like an area that appeals to you, please don't hesitate to contact me for a complete list of all properties for sale in the area.
Sincerely,
