We are seeing a few more bank owned and short sales on the market but as a whole this market is certainly not saturated with distressed property listings that we see in some other communities within Sonoma County. Sebastopol, Penngrove & Healdsburg are three other locations that follow a similar scenario.

A majority of the Bodega Bay market are second homes and often times sellers may want to sell but do not have the same sense of urgency and can wait the market out and will do just that. Many of these homes are in the Vacation Rental Market and are bringing their sellers an income while they are being marketed to sell.

I am happy to further drill down these stats to more specific neighborhoods within Bodega Bay, such as The Bodega Bay Harbour Development, or for other areas of Sonoma County upon request.

Bodega Bay is for THE BIRDS

Ginger Wilcox, Marin County Realtor: Real Estate Agent in Belvedere Tiburon, CA
Bodega Bay is a short trip away from Marin County. Only about an hour’s drive, you feel like you are in a different world. To get to Bodega Bay, you head north on Highway 1 and cut over through Petaluma. Within a short time, you are surrounded by rolling hills, farms and cows. Soon, we intersect the California Coast Highway 1 and are at Bodega Bay.

Bodega Bay SunsetBodega Bay is a tiny town, much smaller than I realized. It has 950 people. We stayed at Inn at the Tides, a fairly large hotel complex made up if 86 rooms, four rooms per “lodge”. Each lodge is a brown shingled building. The rooms are average, nothing to write home about. I was surprised that the hotel was across the highway from the water. Most of the rooms do have harbor views, but due to the large plantings, it was not as big of a view as I expected. Despite the limited views, I was still able to capture this spectacular sunset overlooking the Bodega Bay Harbor.

Our room was directly across from the pool, which was perfect for us with two kids. The pool is heated. Part of it is outdoors, the other is inside. Even better is the large hot tub. Nothing like a nice cocktail in the hot tub with rain drops falling on your head.

Inn at the Tides has two restaurants. The most famous is the Tides Wharf restaurant, across Highway 1 from the hotel and directly on the Harbor. The Tides Wharf was made famous in the 60s when Alfred Hitchcock’s movie- The Birds was filmed there.

There is some excellent seafood in Bodega Bay, although the restaurant menus seemed to be almost identical. If you don't like seafood, you may find the food pretty boring.
