Brea, California
The city of Brea is located in the north east portion of Orange County, in Southern California. Brea, California is located off the 57 Orange Freeway and is bordered by Chino Hills State Park, and the cities of Placentia, La Habra, Fullerton, and Yorba Linda, California.
Brea is approximately 25 miles from the beach, 40 miles from Downtown Los Angeles, and 15 miles from Disneyland.

This north Orange County city was founded at the beginning of the 19th century, and was originally the site of two villages, Olinda, and Randolph. The name Brea, which is the Spanish word for tar, was implemented in the year of 1917, when the city was officially incorporated. At that time there were less than 1,000 residents. Today, there are nearly 41,000 residents living in the city of Brea, California.
According to the US Census Bureau, the city of Brea spans 12.08 square miles, and, as of 2010, there were 3,252 people per square mile.
Newsworthy Facts About Brea, California
When the area of Olinda and Randolph first became popular, it was due to its connection with the oil industry, and many would-be oil moguls came to the area searching for this "black gold". However, Brea, California was home to many public figures and athletes, including baseball legend, Walter Johnson, and well known director and producer, James Cameron.
The city of Brea was also chosen to house one of the first Carls Jr. fast food restaurants, and was 1 of only 2 locations in all of Orange County, when they were originally built.
Now, the city is known for its charm and great shopping. In fact, Brea was honorably named in Sunset Magazine, as one of the 5 best suburbs to live in the Western United States in 2006.
Brea Olinda Unified School District
The Brea Olinda Unified School District is one of the smaller school districts in North Orange County, however it has managed to achieve big accolades, with several of the schools receiving the National Blue Ribbon and California Distinguished School awards.
The Brea Olinda Unified School District (BOUSD) is popular with families looking for a place where their child can excel in school and sports, and benefit from an un-crowded atmosphere.
What Makes Brea, California Desirable?
Many factors play a part in the popularity of Brea, California. At the top of the list, are the rolling hills, scenic views, and mix of rural and urban setting.
While a good portion of Brea, California is surrounded by the natural backdrop of hillsides and Chino Hills state park, the city also has a beautiful indoor mall, great restaurants and a lively nightlife. One of the most popular areas is Downtown Brea, where you can find additional shopping, places to dine, and catch a movie or live comedy show. The Downtown Brea community also has a wide selection of single family homes, condos and lofts to choose from, and is desirable to anyone that enjoys living within walking distance of their favorite restaurants and stores.
Another attractive feature of Brea, California is the warm weather and sunshine throughout the majority of the year; While Brea is a short 20 minute drive to the beach, it's far enough inland that the mornings are not overcast and the humidity level is low.
Brea Real Estate And Housing
If you are looking to buy a home in Brea, California, you'll find a vast array of residential property types to choose from. Whether you're interested in homes with large lots, traditional homes with standard lot sizes, homes with hills, city lights or golf course views, or a condo or loft located in the heart of downtown, Brea has a home to suit your needs!
Unlike many other Southern California cities, Brea did not experience as steep of a drop in property value and wide spread foreclosures. This can be attributed to the desirability of the area, the lower level of active listings, and the fiscally conservative nature of the majority of homeowners in Brea.
Brea properties range from approximately $150,000 for condos and townhomes, to $3,000,000+ for luxury estates.
