About Humboldt County, CA

In my previous blog, I spoke about showing a house to my clients around 9:30pm.  I received a few concerns about Realtor safety that does deserve mentioning.  Thank you to everyone that has commented so far.  I think that all real estate agents should be aware of their own personal safety when showing clients around, even those clients whom they have known for a while.  Last night when I showed my buyers the house, I did bring a family member along with me just to be safe and to help lock up the house. 

I would not have shown the house so late had there been a number of factors that would prompt me to do so. One factor was that yesterday was the only day the husband had off from his restaurant business (which he works in from morning to night daily), the house I showed was exceptionally low priced and fit most of their criteria, I have known these clients for a few years now, the area was not far from my home, and I brought a family member along. 

Yes, I agree that as professional real estate agents, we need to be professional and accomedating to our clients, be mindful of our work time and balance that with family and fun time, and also be safe at the same time.  That is what makes our job so unique and enjoyable.

Well, it is after 10pm and I've just got back home after showing a few houses to my new buyers who are looking to purchase their first home in Eureka, CA. The husband had his day off today and I was in Crescent City, CA most of the day showing houses there. Crescent City is about an hour and a half from Eureka, so I could not get to Eureka in time before dark to meet my Eureka buyers in the day light hours.

Luckily, the couple was still interested in viewing a few new listings that fit their home search criteria. I went to extra mile by showing them the homes this late, but I knew that the husband had to work tomorrow and could not have made it. How about you? Would you still show your clients houses after 9pm?

Craigslist and other free online marketing and advertising sites are a great way to promote your real estate listings and other items that you would like to sell.  I have been posting on Craigslist for a few years now and have received great results for my personal items to sale, and mixed results with real estate listings and rentals as well. 

With that said, I have been receiving more and more Spam mail lately from having advertise on Craigslist that have nothing to do with the property listing or item that I have posted for sale!  These Spam messages say anything from "Do you need money? Please click on this link" to "I am interested in your item for sale, please email me your contact information and I will send you a very large check in your name, I will pay extra for covering your hardship of cashing this big check...." 

Another dangerous thing is that they have links to their website that supposedly make you money.  Please do not click on these links because they will lead you to a website that will steal all the personal information from your computer, or put a virus on your computer.  I have replied to a few just to test them out, and now, I am getting these spam messages on my Active Rain posts!  These low lives post their advertising on your blog posts and try to infect your readers.  All you have to do is to report to Active Rain or your blog administrator and delete their viscous messages.

Another malicious thing these scam artists do is once you have posted on Craigslist, they will use your email to send spam mail to someone else, or even to yourself!  I have also received many spam mail from my own email advertising free links that will make me money, but are just links to viscous sites that will take your personal information.  When I reply to my own email, which just emailed me the spam, I actually email myself!  I do not know how these low lives were able to use my very own email to spam myself, but please be careful out there. 

Please, my fellow real estate agents, Realtors, friends and colleages, be careful when you are posting on free online marketing sites like Craigslist and do not reply to this obnoxious and intrusive emails from these low life scammers with nothing to do but prey on innocent people like you and me.  Please report these emails to Craigslist or your local police.  We need to stop them.

Yes, finally, this coming July 4th weekend will see the opening of at least the South Bound lanes through the new Confusion Hill Highway 101 by-pass opening Humboldt Up to the outside world! Caltrans has been working on this project for at least the past ten years.

For as long as I can remember, every winter, when we would drive down south to San Francisco during the winter months, there would be rain and that rain would cause the dirt and gravel from the top of the mountains at Confusion Hill to slide down onto Highway 101 and block traffic coming into Humboldt County through the Redwood Curtain. Caltrans has had to close traffic each time from 1997 on during the heavy rain season because of this situation. That would slow traffic, or pause it all together.

Now, with this new by-pass, traffic can flow readily in and out of Humboldt County year round! I am so happy for this and cannot wait til I get to use it myself on my way to visit San Francisco from Eureka. Today I showed about 5 homes to some new clients of mine in Eureka, CA. It is surprising, but although the housing market in Eureka and most of Humboldt County has overall been pretty steady in the rise and fall of its prices, there are more and more listings that are either being sold as short sales, or are REOs or banked owned.

Of the three listings we saw, two were short sales and the rest were bank owned. But the good thing is that now, my clients are able to afford the house of their dream, or at least have more options in their home search. My clients did not decide on a house to make an offer on tonight, but we are meeting up again tomorrow afternoon and keep on looking.
