Dia de los Muertos at Self Help Graphics

Cheryl Johnson: Real Estate Brokerage in Highland Park, CA

Dia de los Muertos honors beloved ancestors, family and friends who have passed on.

In the lands that are now known as Mexico and Central America, traditions of honoring the deceased with private altars laden with flowers, mememtos, food and drink date back many thousands of years.

When the Spanish Conquistadors came to this land, they attempted to eradicate the holiday celebration in their efforts to convert the indigenous people.

But The Day of the Dead would not die.  And in time, the old customs blended with the Catholic Holy Days of All Saints' Day (November 1) and All Souls' Day (November 2).  And by extension, in modern times,  All Hallows Eve (the eve of All Saints Day, "Halloween")

Self Help Graphics & Art in East Los Angeles has a 37 year tradition of hosting Dia de los Muetos celebrations.
