While the real estate news in California was somewhat optimistic with the number of home sales dramatically increasing over September of 2007, the sales were due mainly to home buyers and investors buying distressed properties, bank owned homes, and short sales at significantly reduced prices. The prices throughout the South Bay were lower year over year in September with the exception being El Segundo. El Segundo saw an increase in the median home price of just over 12% while the rest of the South Bay's median home prices decreased with most cities experiencing double digit declines.

While the news in El Segundo was a bright spot the increase in median price was due in large part to the fact that of the 8 homes that closed in September, most were single family homes. Only one condominium sold and 2 townhomes with the rest being single family homes. Throughout the downturn and negative media portrayals, some cities in the South Bay, especially those closest to the ocean, have remained strong and held value quite well.

No plans for the weekend? Now you do! Gasoline Gallery in El Segundo is holding its 3rd Annual Art & Hot Rod Show on Saturday, May 10, 2008 from 12-6 pm.

You know that summer is here when you start seeing car and hot rod shows regularly in California. And these shows are a great summer event for families. Kids often get their first taste of car appreciation when they accompany their parents to these fun-filled events. And this one is no exception.

Of course, it is a car show so there will be lots of cars. But it's really more than that. This car show has a huge draw for the Rockabilly crowd. You will see men and women dressed like up in vintage style outfits from the 40's and 50's. It's not uncommon to see ladies dressed up like pinup girls, posing in front of cars from the same era.

And don't forget the art portion of the show. Artwork from dozens of artists will be displayed, and there will also be opportunities to meet some of the artists.
