When I first started my blogging tenure with Active Rain I had no idea what I was getting into. I thought Active Rain was just another costly marketing gimmick. Little did I know that I would meet some of the nicest people in our industry, online and in person.
Susan Neal is a top Realtor® in the beautiful town of Fair Oaks California. Those of you who know me know that I spent a good part of my life growing up in Sacramento and grew up in Carmichael, just minutes from Fair Oaks.
I flew into Sacramento to meet with friends and business partners. I asked if Susan would like to meet me for lunch and she agreed.
Meeting Susan was like meeting an old friend. Because of the community platform Active Rain created I was able to get to know Susan before ever meeting her. We talked for a couple of hours as I recounted how Fair Oaks used to be and she brought me up to speed with how things have changed and not changed since I left.
What impressed me most is her easy going attitude. She is really pleasant and easy to get along with. She introduced me to her friend who happened to stop by as we were having lunch. Watching her interact with others it is obvious that Susan is well liked and respected by the residents of Fair Oaks. When it comes to real estate, Susan is very knowledgeable in her field and knows the Fair Oaks area better than anyone I know. If you get a chance to meet her I recommend it highly.
Meeting people with similar interests and the camaraderie is my ongoing Active Rain success story because in the end it is all about people, isn't it?

If you're not house hunting this weekend, come on out and spend the day at the Chicken Festival in Old Fair Oaks, CA.
How many chickens do you know that have their own festival?
Ours do!

The Fair Oaks Chicken Festival is going to be a huge party celebrating our history, and the part chickens have played in it, with day-long activities for kids and adults. Plaza Park, in the center of our festival location, will be converted into a kid's park, with fun games and activities. Well known local bands will perform throughout the day.
On Friday night the event kicks off with a BBQ Dinner in the park. Tickets are $25/person and includes Chicken & Rib Dinner with coleslaw and baked beans, roll, 2 drinks and a chance to win the door prize. (Must be 18+ to attend)
Bad Catz classic rock and blues band will be the entertainment for the evening.
Tickets can be purchased at the Fair Oaks Recreation & Park District office located at:
4150 Temescal St., Fair Oaks, CA 95628
The Chicken Festival begins Saturday, September 18th from 8 AM to 6 PM with FREE General Admission!
Here is the schedule for the day's events:
8:00 AM to 11:00 AM "Old Time Country Breakfast" at the Fair Oaks Community Club House, upper level.
An old fashioned farm breakfast with ham, scrambled eggs, hot cakes, and biscuits with homemade gravy. Coffee, hot chocolate, hot cider, tea and juice.
Breakfast is $5.00 per person (tickets at the door.)
There will be a children's Park area with face painting, puppet shows, bouncy things and carnival games. $5.00 per child.
The bands will start to play at 9:00 AM and will include "Blue Cheese" Blues Band, Mumbo Gumbo, Funkengruven, and Lightning Hand Band.
Food and Craft vendors will be in and around the village all day.
A micro brewery tasting area will be set up around the American River Bank Parking lot on Fair Oaks Blvd.
I'm looking forward to a lovely day with friends. I'll take some photos and write about the experience. Fair Oaks is one of my favorite places adjacent to Sacramento. If you are looking to buy a home, Fair Oaks is a nice place to live.
