We are almost through the month of March and Spring is in the air. Most of the snow is gone from around the
cabins and it won't be long before the camp sites sprinkled through out the Big Bear Valley will be filled to capacity.
Located just off of Highway 38 is the Serrano Campground. Serrano Campground offers 132 camping sites that can be used by tents, RV's. pop-up campers and pick up trucks. 29 of those camp sites offer 30 amp electrical, water, and sewer hook-ups. They also have a sewer dump station on site. All of the camp sites come with a picnic table and fire ring. There may be times when you're camping at Serrano and you may not be able to have an open fire Camping at Serrano Campground brings with it many enjoyable things to do. Because Serrano Campgrounds sits next to Big Bear Lake, it opens up all kinds of activities for you to enjoy? Fishing, boating, swimming, water skiing, canoeing, and kayaking can all be seen on Big Bear lake.

In the photo to your left, you can see a handicap camp site. The amount of paved area is greater than in the "regular" campsites, making it easier for persons using wheelchairs and walkers to get around within the site.
The Serrano Campground has on-site campground hosts, and park rangers make round-the-clock security checks.
One of my all time favorite camping sites is Hanna Flats. Hanna Flats is 3 miles from Fawnskin off of Rim Of The World Road.(3N14) At that camp site, you have some breath taking scenic views of the forest, While camping, you find yourself surrounded by hardwood trees such as Oak and Mountain Mahogany. Hanna Flats has some great hiking and biking trails.
Lightening started the Butler fire in September of 2007. That fire burned very close to the community of Fawnskin and it was reported that Hanna Flats was distroyed by the fire.
In November, I took a drive to Hanna Flats to see if it had in fact been destroyed. Upon arrival, I did see damage from the fire but the camp site was no where near destroyed. At this time, I don't have an update as to when the damage will be repaired. But as you can see from the photos that I took, it shouldn't be long before you can once again enjoy camping at Hanna Flats.
The picture on the left is where two bathroom facilities once stood. The one structure didn't look like the fire touched it, yet the one next to it burned to the ground.
In time, mother nature will repair the damage sustained during the Butler Fire and Hanna Flats will be as breath taking as it used to be. It is my hope that this wonderful camp site can be repaired and opend to the public very soon.
Whether you're into camping, hiking, bicycle riding, boating, swimming, fishing or just enjoying the mountain setting, Big Bear as a Four Seasons Resort has it all.
