About Fremont's Niles

Bike riding on Fremont’s trails, a hidden treasure!

When I decided to go bike riding with my daughter, I had no idea what I was getting into. We started our workout on the Sequoia entry point on the Fremont side of the Alameda Creek Trail, which spans the cities of Fremont, Newark and Union City.

The long curving trail runs a distance of a good 12 miles. And no, we did not bike ride that distance, not even close! But whatever we traversed, the labor of pedaling wasn’t all that bad, and in fact was made a little lighter by sceneries of the gorgeous hills of the Niles, the refreshing sound of the running stream and occasional ducks on the side.

And after cycling our way back home, my knees finally gave in and cried “I’m sore!” And my response: It was well worth it!

Thanks to BPO, this photo is a beauty!

I just did a BPO in my Fremont neighborhood, and I was surprised by the wonderful view of fall showing off its colors right before my eyes. The hills of Niles Canyon served as a striking backdrop to the trees’ seasonal colors – truly amazing! I don’t remember fall being this beautiful. I’m glad I captured it in this photo…thanks to the BPO!

Historic Niles in Fremont – Charlie Chaplin was here!

The golden age of "silent movies" occurred when Niles was at the center of it all. It was in these rustic streets of Niles where the most famous silent films of all time were made, including Charlie Chaplin's The Tramp.

In 1912, Essanay Studios chose to make Niles its hub for its film making endeavors. The studio was owned by Broncho Billy, who is also the world's first western movie star. Niles was the backdrop to many famous movies of the time starring Charlie Chaplin, Wallace Beery and Ben Turpin.

Today, Fremont's Niles district has preserved the glory of its movie making years by way of the silent film museum on Niles Boulevard.  Historic Niles is also famous for its antique shops, craft galleries, and the Niles Canyon Railway train depot. There is much to explore on this side of Fremont!

New Homes In Fremont--New Materials

Jeff Pereyda Fremont-Newark-Union City Homes for sale: Real Estate Brokerage in Fremont, CA
I sold a brand new home in Fremont today. (not shown here) I am not the broker there at the new home in Fremont building site. Rather, I am the broker for TriCity Real Estate Brokers, Inc. here http://www.tricityhome.com.

But, an earnest home buyer found my site and--long story short--bought a brand new home in Fremont at the new Cedarbrook subdivision. I also discovered that they read my prior blog post on New homes in Niles here. http://tricityhome.blogspot.com/2009/12/niles-area-of-fremont.html.

On our tour of the homes, we were impressed with many things that led up to the new home in Fremont purchase. One thing we were educated about was the use of Hardie planks by James Hardie (facebook page). The name Hardie seems perfectly fitting. These are "hard" somewhat flexible, cement boards that make up the sidings for the new homes in Fremont at Cedarbrook. What was thought as or often referred to us as "scales" going down the of a front portion of the new homes in Fremont were actually Hardie planks shingles. They are designed to overlap just like wood siding. They have a good look to them and we really liked the "shingle" look that give the Craftsman elevation a traditional historic Fremont or Niles look. Hardie makes many different types of these exterior materials as well. What was thought to be regular wood siding that runs horizontally across the side of the house was again Hardie planks. What's more is that the Hardie materials were already colored to go with the well planned color schemes that new homes in Fremont have to undergo with the city of Fremont. The end result is one of the cleanest looks in a new home in Fremont can produce, not to mention the most durable.

My buyers really enjoyed the tours, the people at Regis as well as the materials used. However, I doubt that they will drive up to their new Fremont home and give a sigh of relief knowing their home was built with Hardie planks. A "home" is much more than its materials, but I know that the use of Hardie materials will play a big part in providing them with both pride of ownership and peace of mind. It's not even built yet, but my home buyers already love their brand new home in Fremont. Congratulations!

Homes In Niles & Persimmon Pudding

Jeff Pereyda Fremont-Newark-Union City Homes for sale: Real Estate Brokerage in Fremont, CA
My wife and I are inviting friends over from their new home in Niles this weekend; now that school will be out for two weeks Sunday works out okay.

They recently bought a home in Niles Fremont off of Easterday. We live in a Parkmont home in Fremont, so it's never too far to go for a quick visit, and instead of us going over there for their open home in Niles, we decided to have them come this way.

I will be making brick-fired pizza from a home made brick/Weber BBQ fueled by an industrial propane burner. It's a guy thing and another story all together. Pizza may not really say Christmas, so we needed something a bit more seasonal. Ah ha! Persimmon pudding for desert.

For those of you who may not know about bread puddings, they happen to be one of the very best concoctions known in the culinary world. Fortunately for us persimmons grow very well around many homes in Niles. One week ago, I hired my 7 and 8 year old to aid in nabbing some Hachiya persimmons, the kind you have to let ripen a bit off the tree first before eating. So one morning, before school, we picked 10 persimmons and left them in a box. Now, the persimmons are ready. Today, they will each scoop out a Hachiya persimmon as part of their lunch. As for the pudding? Let me know if you want the recipe. But, ask me how they were on Monday first.

In regards to Niles real estate, homes in Niles are decreasing in inventory which is brining the home prices up a bit. (see chart below). You can also see new homes in niles here. http://www.tricityhome.com/niles.html

Homes in Niles are going fast, so if you were thinking of getting one, now is the time. Oh, and don't forget to get a persimmon or two while you are at it.
