The holidays in Fresno, California would not be complete without a trip down the famous Christmas Tree Lane. Over 100,000 people visit the 2 mile holiday wonderland each year. Christmas Tree Lane started in 1920 with a single tree being lit in honor of a young boy who died. This year, 2010, will mark the 88th anniversary of the lane. In 1941 with wartime restrictions the lane was dark and again in 1973 with the energy crisis.
Christmas Tree Lane spans nearly 2 miles, 140 homes, and over a million lights!!! It is absolutely spectacular every year.
This year Christmas Tree Lane will open on Friday, December 3 and run until December 26. Hours Sun-Thurs are 6 pm to 10 pm and on Friday and Saturday 6 pm to 11 pm. Lights go out at this time, so plan accordingly.
This year the walk nights will be held on opening night, December 3 and Tuesday, December 14. On these nights the lane is closed to vehicles. Shuttles can be taken from Fig Garden Village to the beginning of the lane. Look for more information on the Fresno Keller Williams Realty Walk Night activities/shuttle service as well.
Christmas Tree Lane begins at Shields Avenue and runs along the famous Van Ness Boulevard to Shaw Avenue. Van Ness becomes a one way street during this time.
Don't miss out on one of Fresno's biggest holiday traditions, take a trip down the famous Christmas Tree Lane this year. It's free, but donations really help with all the costs associated with setting up and running the lane.

Instead of a traditional renovation and sale, this home construction project became a mission of the heart. The investor (who wishes to remain anonymous) organized the effort for donations of services and materials from local contractors and companies to renovate this home from top to bottom. All profits from the sale of the completed home were given to four faith-based charities: Evangelicals for Social Action, Fresno Rescue Mission, Habitat for Humanity and Poverello House. "Witnessing businesses and individuals respond so willingly to requests for materials and services was truly humbling. And watching a home formerly associated with such darkness and crime being transformed was a very fulfilling experience" stated the seller. The final product is a stunning 2,300 square foot, 3 bedroom, 3 bath home with new landscaping, plumbing, electrical, cabinetry and fixtures. Built in 1937 on a 13,500 square foot lot with historical detailing throughout, the home even features a rare Fresno basement. Additions include a new two car garage and attractive front courtyard. "We were just in the right place at the right time," stated the first time home buyers. "It was a complete construction zone when we first saw it, but once we walked through the home with the contractor we saw the vision for the place and were hooked." |
