This video is a tribute to Deukmejian Wilderness Park in the foothills of Glendale California. This huge park of over 700 acres was
devastated by the Station Fire last August. I was lucky enough to be in attendance when phase III of the park was dedicated. My husband, Bob Yousefian who was Mayor at the time, did the ribbon cutting. Former Mayor Larry Zarian was also in attendance. Govenor George Deukmejian was the honored guest and speaker.
Last spring on an unusually clear and sunny day I took the time to go to the park and take photos. It was one of those rare moments that you never forget. The sky was cobalt blue and the puffy white clouds were dancing in the sky. I was struck by the sight of a family who was picnicking at the park all alone with no others there. They were flying a kite. I remember that moment often, when I am stressed out by some crazy real estate issue. It is because it reminds me that we all need to take the time to appreciate the little moments in life. Take the time to go fly a kite. Take the time to walk your dog, attend your daughter's soccer game...whatever. Take the time to appreciate the natural beauty of nature...before it is gone.
It is gone now. Gone due to huge fire that burned everything in its path. Deukmejian Park looks like a moonscape now. Thankfully due to the heroic efforts of fire fighters and others, the historic stone barn and the huge old growth oak tree remain intact.
On June 19th the ART from the Ashes organization and Glendale Parks and Open Space Foundation are unveiling the Exhibit at 216 S. Brand in Glendale. This is an art show where the artists have created art that has incorporated salvaged materials from Deukmejian Wilderness Park.
Proceeds from the fundraiser at the event will go toward the efforts to restore the park. Opening reception is from 5-9 PM on June 19th. The show runs through July 24th. For other information as well as neighborhood videos and Real Estate Market Videos and Tips visit Sue Eller's Website.
