People and clients alike keep asking me what’s going on with the market? Is it a good time to buy? Of course all this depends on their situation, but yes, this could be a great time to buy. Interest rates are at historic lows, and home prices have come down to what many people feel are more affordable. Let’s check the facts directly off the MLS.

There were 321 SFR and 201 condo active listings as of November 30, 2011. There were 102 closed sales for both SFR and Condos in November with an average 101 days on the market. How does this compare the same time last year? There were 116 closed sales for SFR and Condos in November with an average of 92 days on the market. 35 properties that sold in November were a result of a distressed state, (NOD, Foreclosure, SS, REO.) Again, I feel the uncertainty of the economy and continued unemployment situation is having an impact on what could be a robust and healthy turn around in the housing market. The issues in Europe are something to keep our eye as well as it may have an affect on our economy as well.

There were 82 SFR and 21 condo active listings as of November 30, 2011. There were 17 closed sales for both SFR and Condos in November with an average 101 days on the market. Last year at this time, there were 24 closed sales with an average of 85 days on the market. It appears that homes are taking longer to sell, which may be the result of many factors. I believe that uncertainty in the economy and employment on shaky footing may be causing reluctance in purchasing.

There were 112 SFR and 12 condo active listings as of November 30, 2011. There were 24 closed sales for both SFR and Condos in November with an average 101 days on the market. Last year this time, there were 48 closed sales, with an average of 80 days on market. The turmoil in Europe, and more specifically, problems with (PIIGS) economy in Portugal, Ireland, Italy, Greece, and Spain may have more of an impact on our economy than previously thought. Issue that weigh on our economy and with continued unemployment, I believe, seem to be stalling what could be a healthy recovery in our housing market.

Wall Street protests reach Orange County

Just read an article in The OC Register and learned about activity forming right here in Surf City USA. The Occupy OC movement has started in Huntington Beach and while it appears to be a grassroots organization with no leader, it may just be the start of something big. With the summation of nearly 70 people from various parts of the county, people are angry about anything from high unemployment, corporate greed, bailing out the too big to fails, the growing gap between the ultra rich and the poor and just to support the younger generation of America. The demonstrators who refer to themselves as the 99 percent, say Wall Street and the corporations represent 1 percent of America. Let's all remember the First Amendment in the Bill of Rights: Freedom of religion, speech and the press, and of the right to peaceably assemble and petition the government. Good luck to everyone and you right to peaceably demonstrate what you believe in. It will be interesting to see how this turns out.
