About Indian Wells' Indian Wells Country Club

"I Love Lucy" was and still is one of my favorite shows on television. It still makes me laugh and now my children enjoy it also. Did you know that Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz were co-founders of the Indian Wells Resort in 1957? Arguably one of the most historic golf clubs in the Coachella Valley, the Indian Wells Country Club was initially intended as an escape for the Hollywood movers and shakers of that era. When more people discovered its rustic beauty and scenic mountain views, Indian Wells became known as the "Fun Club of the Desert", a title it still claims to this day.

Indian Wells Country Club offers two courses featuring 36 challenging golf holes. The Classic Course is a par 72 with 6,500 yards of beautiful fairways and challenging greens. The Classic Course was designed in 1956 by Eddie Sussalla. This course was the original home to the Bob Hope Classic for many years. From February 19^th - 21^st, the Frank Sinatra Starkey Hearing Foundation Celebrity Invitational "Lucky 21", benefitting the Barbara Sinatra Children's Center at Eisenhower will be played here.

The Cove Course is an 18 hole, par 72, 6,558 yards championship course designed by Ted Robinson, Sr. and Indian Wells Country Club co-founder Eddie Sussalla. The Cove Course was built several years after the Classic Course and provides golfers unique challenges for every skill level.

There is a 70,000 square foot clubhouse, golf academy, a full calendar of "Club within the Club" activities and social events, including the desert's largest end of the season celebration, the "Pow Wow Party". Over 1,000 Members and Guests gather to celebrate another great year at Indian Wells Country Club. The Pow Wow party is considered one of the best "end of the season" Club events to attend in the desert.

There are approximately 900 homes in the area offering spectacular views of the nearby mountains and the feeling of relaxation that the desert lifestyle brings to so many residents and visitors to this region. Condos and single family homes range in size from 2,500 square feet to well over 5,000 square feet, and range in price from the low $300,000's to millions. The 26th annual LG Skins Game this Thanksgiving weekend was to be held in the beautiful region of Indian Wells, California. And just like every year, it is an event that golf fans do not want to miss out on. Unfortunately the Skins Game was canceled in 2009.

LG, which is one of the world's leading electronics companies, would have been the title sponsor in this one million dollar purse. With this large purse, it is one of the richest two-day events in the history of golf. Some of the greatest golfers of all-time have made their presence heard at this event including Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods.

As mentioned, this year's event was supposed be held at Indian Wells Golf Resort in California. The John Fought designed players course is a par-72 18-hole championship golf course. This is the second of the two new golf courses that was built at the Indian Wells Golf Resort.

The newest of the two courses offers wide playing corridors, well-sculpted bunkers and the traditional rectangular tee boxes. It is guaranteed to challenge the finest of golfers while offering a great reward at the end of the day.

Normally prior to watching the pros tear up the course would be open to the public to play on. This gives the public the opportunity to see just how much of a challenge the pros are in for. Instead of scrutinizing the best in the game all weekend, you can see just what they experience with a lot at stake.

The four-some that was set to put on a show for entertainment this year would have included two-time defending champion Stephen Ames, three-time major champion Phil Mickelson, five-time PGA tour winner K.J. Choi, and U.S. Open runner-up Rocco Mediate. All of them would have be competing for the one million dollar LG Skins Game purse airing on ABC for the 18th consecutive year.

Every year when Thanksgiving weekend rolls around, golf fans tune in for some world-class entertainment on the links of Indian Wells Country Club Golf Resort in California. It really is a weekend where everyone can kick back and relax. Make yourself a turkey sandwich with some potatoes and stuffing on the side while watching quality golf.

Although it is not a golf championship event, it is still guaranteed to satisfy the casual golf fan. Some of the finest golf pros in the world face off head-to head in a four-some battle you do not want to miss. Lets hope this great event comes back to the Indian Wells Country Club soon.
