The pumpkin is the gourd of choice in October. Here are some facts about Halloween’s mascot.

-Native American Indians used dried pumpkin strips to make mats.

-Pumpkins are a fruit. In fact, it is New Hampshire’s state fruit.

-Pumpkin seeds provide protein and zinc. They can lower cholesterol and lessen the inflammation of arthritis.

-The self proclaimed “pumpkin capital of the world” is Morton, Illinois, where 85% of the world’s canned pumpkin is produced.

So why not head to a local pumpkin patch and support small business, find a great piece to carve, roast some seeds, and make a delicious and healthy pumpkin dish.

Today we hit a milestone, the Dow Jones industrial average touched 10,000, the first time since October 2008 when it was on its way down. This was a 53% comeback since early March!

Traders in New York tossed commemorative caps and uncorked champagne. It was a major sigh of relief and is great momentum to look toward the future with.
