Do you have one of those stores in your town that you can’t seem to walk by without going in? Well, this is that store for me. Main Street Designs has been a favorite shopping destination home décor and gifts. You’ll find fabulous gifts items, like jewelry, specialty knives, body lotions and fragrances, men’s accessories, card and candles…. Specialty women’s clothing and shoes.

There’s always something unique and appealing to catch your eye. But Main Street Designs is known for their annual Christmas Store, with beautiful decorations to adorn your home and tree. You’ll find them at 56 S. Livermore Ave, where the halls are decked and just waiting for Santa. Who by the way is there to greet the kiddies, and take photos throughout the season.

And one of my personal favorite lines they carry is Brighton, featuring jewelry, shoes, handbags and sunglasses.

Are you a fan of Chinese food? Are you a fan of really, delicious Chinese food? Then Uncle U’s at the Vineyards is not to be missed.

First, you’ll be greeted by a friendly hostess, when you’ll have the choice of a place at the well-appointed bar, featuring many of local Livermore wines, a fine-dining atmosphere, or a table in the outdoor patio, where you’ll see families enjoying a nice evening’s stroll, or you can see toddlers tentatively test the waters at Lizzy Fountain.

Uncle U’s has many of the traditional dishes you typically see on a Chinese menu, but that have some specialty dishes as well. My personal favorite is the Seared Harris Ranch Beef Tenderloin Medallions and Tiger Prawns. Hmmm, tasty, beautifully presented and memorable.

Take a stroll downtown Livermore almost any night, and you’ll find the streets lined with people dining al fresco, walking their dogs, playing with their kids at one of the two downtown fountains. You’d be hard-pressed to see anything resembling a down economy in terms of vitality. It fact, new businesses are opening all of the time.

In July, Nested Treasures (rarities, curiosities, possibilities is their tagline), is a unique home décor store offering scheduled shop dates and appointments. Their niche items are designed by local artisans and rent space in the store. Soon to come are weekly workshops for do-it-yourself design projects.

With so much to do and see Downtown, it’s no wonder a few savvy business owners have brought some easy-carry food options to Livermore. The newest addition is Spanky’s Dog House. Traditional hot dogs to be sure, but some ethnic options like Polish, Italian and chorizo dogs add variety to the menu. They’ve got a couple of over-the-top ‘meal-in-a-dog choices, but you’ll have to go there in person to check those out. Smart, they’re open till 11p.m. Thursday through Saturday evening, in hopes of catching those late-night munchies.

And another still to come - Double Barrel Wine Bar is scheduled for a September opening. Right next door to one of my personal favorites, First Street Alehouse. Now when the guys go grab a beer and watch a game, the girls can have a night out right next door with Spanish tapas and desserts paired with wine by the glass, bottle or flights (local, regional and global wines available)
