Doesn’t this scene remind you of something from Pirates of the Carribean? While on Broker’s Tour in Livermore, CA today I saw this scene in the front yard of home in Ponderosa Legacy. Don’t know who gets credit for the creative set-up, but back in the day when my three boys still lived at home, they’d have loved this.
The scarier the better in their opinion. My sons were no slouches when it came time for Halloween decorations. One year we had a guillotine (they made it themselves, and chopped heads of unsuspecting costumed dummies). Another year we had a maze of wheat bales, leading up to Beetlejuice’s Bar, serving shrunken heads and other such delights. All the kids bellied up for their tricks and treats when they heard that wonderful soundtrack playing.
But the year they scared the daylights out of the neighborhood kids was the year we had a real coffin in the yard. Lots of stuffed creatures around the porch, so the unsuspecting trick-or-treaters would grab handfuls of candy out of the seemingly unattended bowl, while one of the ‘stuffed’ creatures quickly came to life to grab it back. While the costumed kids went running back to mom and dad, one of my more mischievous boys would pop out of the coffin and grab them again.
The set up was certainly a hit that year. I had to go out and replenish the candy supply two times! Seeing this scene today certainly brought back some fun memories.
