A Termite Fumigation May Harm Your Health!
Last Year I had a listing that was a little challenging to sell. Finally after 3 times in escrow, the home finally sold. We had the termite inspection and the home was tented and fumigated.
2 days after the tent was removed, I decided to do some light cleaning so it looked good for the new buyer. The home had wood floors and it was a little dusty. Most of the windows had been opened so I though nothing of sweeping the home. So I swept the floors which stirred up some dust. An hour later I felt the home was presentable for the new buyer and I went home.
Later that evening I felt my breathing was a little challenged. I didn't think too much of it and I went to bed. For the next week, I was gasping for breath at nighttime. I felt OK during the day but once late evening arrived, I was really having trouble breathing. I immediately realized that sweeping the home was a big mistake. I'm sure I inhaled lots of dust and residue from the termite chemicals that were used to fumigate the home.
My recommendation to anyone - weather you are a Realtor, Buyer or Seller - is to be very careful when cleaning after a termite fumigation. I would wear a mask over my mouth and nose. If you have to clean hard floors, I would use damp mop and be careful if you sweep!
