Monte Sereno, CA

Exquisite, Exclusive Monte Sereno

Michelle Carr-Crowe, ABR ALHS ASP CDPE RECS SRES: Real Estate Agent in San Jose, CA

Exquisite, Exclusive Monte Sereno

Monte Sereno, California, is one of the most exclusive residential neighborhoods in all of Santa Clara County, and perhaps California.

With only about 4,000 residents and virtually no commercial or retail (besides La Hacienda Inn and Restaurant), Monte Sereno is where many of Silicon Valley's most discriminating millionaires call home.

Characterized by majestic redwoods, estate-sized lots and custom-built homes, Monte Sereno is an ideal place to call home. Located within almost an exact 1-square-mile, Monte Sereno is embraced by Los Gatos, Saratoga and Campbell. Boundaries are along Saratoga-Los Gatos Road (highway 9), Quito Road, Bicknell/Karl/Eaton and Winchester Blvd.

Education is a priority for residents, as evidenced by the award-winning schools, including both Los Gatos and Saratoga high schools of the Los Gatos-Saratoga Union High School District (http://www.lgsuhsd.org/).

Although the majority of homes are stately, 2500-sf-plus homes on ~10,000-sq. ft. lots, homes can range from cabins hidden in the woods, to million-dollar bungalows to huge mansions along Viewfield and Grandview roads, with traditional ranch and two-story homes scattered throughout.

Prices rarely fall below $1 Million (except perhaps those right on Winchester Blvd.), with many at $2.5M and up to $15 million-plus for estate-style properties and even more for those with valley or ocean views.

For those who treasure breathing fresh air, the sight of green trees, impromptu encounters with wildlife and the feeling of being away from the city, while literally only 2-5 minutes from Los Gatos or Saratoga, Monte Sereno is a unique option.

One big plus are the Los Gatos Schools. For elementary and middle schools in Los Gatos, there is the Union School District, as well as the Los Gatos Union School District. There is only one high school, Los Gatos High, which is part of the Los Gatos-Saratoga High School District.

Downtown Los Gatos is a destination shopping experience for many in Silicon Valley. In addition to the darling bungalow and Victorian homes, Los Gatos is filled with charming shops, exquisite dining, unique spas and services as well as antiques and more traditional stores.

Unique entertainment venues nearby in Saratoga include Villa Montalvo, which hosts a variety of musical artists as well as regular museum and gallery art showings; and the Mountain Winery, which also provides a beautiful location for musical groups.

First-run movie locations include the intimate and historic, locally-owned Camera Theatre. Nearby venues are CineArts and AMC Theater franchises, including Century 21, 22, 23, 24 & 25 Theatres, Santana Arts Theatre and Saratoga AMC 14. Additionally, two nearby theatres specialize in showing first-run Bollywood/Indian films - Century 25 (aka The Retro Dome) and The Alameda Theatres.

From the bargain outlet mini-mall at Westgate Shopping Center to upscale Westfield Shoppingtown Valley Fair to unique boutiques at Santana Row, along with a wide variety of ethnic grocery and restaurant choices, Los Gatos features luxury that is both a world away and close to home.

Monte Sereno Real Estate Market Update & Comparison With Los Gatos

Mary Pope-Handy, ABR, CRS, ePRO, SRES: Real Estate Agent in Los Gatos, CA

Median List Price of Monte Sereno Homes for Sale as Compared to Los Gatos Homes for Sale in 95030 Zip CodeMonte Sereno is a small city next to Los Gatos and Saratoga, Ca, a nice part of Silicon Valley against the coastal foothills. It's completely residential except for the city office and the post office. With just 4000 residents, it is sometimes overlooked or treated like a suburb of Los Gatos, with which it shares a zip code and some services.

Monte Sereno real estate is a little different then Los Gatos real estate, though. It's a bit more expensive and upscale, and is often considered more desireable. Right now in Silicon Valley, it's the lone holdout with prices higher than they were a year ago!

On my Live in Los Gatos blog, I had a look at Monte Sereno's housing market now as contrasted with Los Gatos now and also with its own market 2 years ago. To learn more about the market for houses in Monte Sereno and to see a number of charts and graphs, please read on at Live in Los Gatos:
