EXPLORING MONTEREY CALIFORNIA PART 3
If the thought of Cannery Row drums up images of Doc Ricketts, John Steinbeck, Sardines, and beautiful ocean views...you have it right. Cannery Row is an area of Monterey that is steeped in history. My Grandfather fished during the sardine days of Cannery Row and my Grandmother and Aunt worked in the canneries. I one time asked my Grandmother "wasn't it great when the canneries were alive and the sardine industry was going strong?" and her answer was "No, the whole town stunk". I am lucky that my family has been here since my grandmother was 2 years old and the family came from Italy. I have witnessed the changes and have been fortunate to have family members who could tell stories of the glory days of Cannery Row.
Well, the canneries are now shops and restaurants, the sardines are gone, but it is still beautiful and fun to visit. There is a very active nightlife, shops and restaurants, and breathtaking scenery.
One must not forget to visit the Monterey Bay Aquarium. <>

It is a phenomenal experience. My daughter was there a few days ago and shot a picture of a seahorse that looks like a piece of sea weed.
Of course, being a foodie, ( I can't help it I am Italian and I love to cook and I love food). I have to tell you about my favorite restaurants in every post about Monterey.
THE SARDINE FACTORY is owned by local residents. Bert Cutino was born and raised in Monterey. His roots in this community date back to the Sardine days of Cannery Row. Partner Ted Balestri is from the East Coast, but moved here many years ago and raised his family here. The food is divine, perfectly prepared with the best ingredients and gorgeous presentation. Customer service is of the utmost. You will leave there not only with a happyl tummy, but you will have had an awesome experience.
World famous and elegant....
The great secret is, you don't have to break the bank to go there regularly. The lounge area has happy hour and great offerings for a very fair price.
Don't miss the famous Abalone Bisque...which was served at request a President Ronald Reagan's inagural dinners. Calamari puffs are a special treat as well.
Visit their website at www.sardinefactory.com for a complete menu and list of offerings.
You can take mom there for Mother's Day and enjoy a 3 course brunch menu from 11:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. for only $25.95 per person/$15.95 children.
I hope you enjoy this video giving you an overview of Cannery Row
Don't forget to go to The Monterey Bay Aquarium and The Sardine Factory. Check out a 3D Movie at the IMAX Theatre, and take a walk down the scenic shorline path. When you fall in love with the place, give me a call and I will help you to find a home of your own...then you will live in heaven on earth. If you would like to explore owning property in Monterey County. I can offer you a free Market Snapshot...You can have access to the current offerings, sold and pending properties as well as get school and neighborhood reports by e-mail. Contact me if you want to set up an account today.

I was in Monterey this last weekend with my son, and we visited the Monterey Bay Aquarium again! We live so close (1hr), so we seem to go there several times a year. I was just snapping pictures and took this one out the big window in the back... Not a good angle, but still an amazing picture! It is neat to think that the vast ocean is right outside this massive window.

I know that we go for the fish... But ya have to love the penguins! I mean, who doesn't??

And up next? Yup, the PINK flamingos!

If you go you have to spend a whole day. By the way, the outer bay exhibit is closed for upgrades. That is the huge tank with the tuna, cod, sunfish, and other large beastly fish!
Have a great day!
