Oceanside is the northern-most community in San Diego County, bordering Camp Pendelton on the north, the ocean to the west, and the towns of Fallbrook, Bonsall and Vista to the east. Oceanside is also a study in contrasts - the housing, the people and the topography.

Oceanside is also the home of a number of poplar and historic attractions - the Oceanside Pier, the California Surf Museum, and the Mission San Luis Rey.

The residential community of Jeffries Ranch, in the northeast corner of Oceanside, is an excellent example of the contrasts one finds in Oceanside. For driving through the community one is reminded of a world that exists elsewhere, away from Oceanside. It's the simple things really, that mark the difference - the wide winding streets lined with mature trees, miles of white board fencing that reminded me of New England, the broad pathways/horse trails hidden behind the fences, and the homes set back from the roadway are immediately noticeable, and so different from the typical tract housing communities that are in such abundance in Southern California. The area is zoned for horses and there are riding trails throughout.

Originally developed in the mid-1970s by Dr. C.W. Jeffries, the community has expanded, so that other nearby subdivisions have adopted the Jeffries Ranch name.

Jeffries Ranch homes themselves are an interesting contrast. As you enter the community off Route 76/Mission Avenue, you immediately notice the trees, the fencing and the predominantly ranch-style homes of older vintage (old, of course in Southern California housing terms), namely the 1970s. But as you drive further through the community you begin to see the newer larger tract-like homes, the more typical Spanish and Mediterranean-style houses with tile roofing. The lots are larger than you often encounter, many of them close to ½ acre or more.

Currently there are 12 Oceanside homes for sale in the MLS in Jeffries Ranch (the original older community as well as the newer areas also considered Jeffries Ranch). The detached homes range in price from $237,500 to $799,000, with living spaces from around a little under 1300 SF up to 2700 SF (2 to4 bedrooms); attached homes are from $199,900 to $258,000.
