About Palo Alto's Downtown Palo Alto

How's the condo market in Palo Alto, California 94301?

How's the condo market in Palo Alto, California 94301?

Last week I did an analysis of the condominium/townhouse market in downtown Palo Alto, California for a client. This particular client has owned her Palo Alto condo for many years, and her building is a popular one, in an excellent downtown location. She was concerned about the steep price declines seen all over the country, including California, and was afraid her Palo Alto property might have declined substantially.

I was happy to have the following information to share with her, to let her know that prices for her type of property have declined only about 5% from their high point in 2007! And isn't it nice to see that 2010 prices are rising again?

She is relieved to know she's likely to have the funds she needs to move to the retirement center of her choice.

Is Zibibbo Closed?

Marcy Moyer C.D.P.E.: Real Estate Agent in Palo Alto, CA

I was walking around downtown Palo Alto yesterday and I noticed that the typically crowded Zibibbo is closed. Not sure if it's temporary or what, but it looked pretty permanent. Does anyone know anything about this?

I've always heard great things about Zibibbo--it has over three hundred reviews on Yelp (most of them positive) and a few years ago it was one of Gourmet Magazine's twenty best American restaurants. Which I guess doesn't mean so much anymore, considering Gourmet's sad fate earlier this spring.

Like Gourmet, Zibibbo may have just been too stranded in an earlier time--a time when people were willing to spend exorbitant amounts of money on dinner, when restaurant splurges weren't limited to special occasions. Whatever happened, it's sad to see that pretty restaurant with dark windows.

What do you think about Zibibbo closing? And didn't Spago, another expensive (Wolfgang Puck I believe) downtown restaurant close recently too?

I wonder what the closing of these high-end restaurants says about the real estate market, and Palo Alto's economy in general.

Ning Appathon [Open Social] competition, Ning Developer Network - Ning, Inc. - Palo Alto, CA

Ning, Inc. (a social network platform developer) hosted a Ning Appathon kickoff event on Thursday, November 5, 2009 at 6:00pm at their offices in downtown Palo Alto, California. For those of you who are unfamiliar with Ning, their platform allows people to create their own social networks for free in exchange for advertising and branding by Ning (most of which can be removed by paying a monthly fee). My first Ning social network can be found at CaneCorso.com.

From the Ning Developer Network:

What: The Ning Appathon is a week-long OpenSocial development competition with prizes for both original and ported applications.

Where: The competition is open to participants worldwide. All entries must be submitted by Thursday, November 12, 2009. Winners will be announced on Thursday, November 19, 2009.

When: The competition began at our kickoff event on November 5, 2009. Winners will be announced on Thursday, November 19, 2009.

Prizes: The Grand Prize for Best Original App is $5,000 (US). The Grand Prize for Best Ported App is $4,000 (US). Two Original App and Ported App finalists (4 total) will each receive $500 (US).

As a Ning network creator, I'm really excited to see all of the apps entered in the Ning Appathon competition for potential use within my social network, CaneCorso.com!

As a photo blogger, I couldn't help capturing these iPhone pics at Ning in Palo Alto to accompany the blog post I was already planning in my head! Ning offered a wide selection of Pizz'a Chicago deep dish pizzas (the one with fresh sliced tomatoes, sun-dried tomatoes, garlic and fresh basil was AWESOME!), stuffed mushrooms, chicken wings, salad, beer, wine and a variety of non-alcoholic beverages from their Ning beverage center! As a bonus to Ning Appathon attendees, Ning gave out some very cool zip hoodie sweatshirts...you can see mine at the end of the slideshow!
