Is it Shell Beach or is it Pismo Beach, California ??
Pismo Beach is located in the Five Cities Metropolitan Area. Shell Beach is a populated place "within" the city limits of Pismo Beach. Pismo Beach is located south of San Luis Obispo and North of Arroyo Grande, California.
As of the census of 2000, there were 8,551 people. Pismo Beach has a total area of 13.4 square miles.
Pismo means "tar" in the language of the native Chumash Indians. Through the late 1880's and into the 1920's, Pismo Beach experienced growth and ever increasing tourism. The El Pizmo Company built the Pismo Dance Pavilion, which would today be in the city parking lot. They also built Tent City, which was two full blocks in size. The El Pizmo Company offered tents for rent and lots for sale. They enticed lookers with a new railroad depot on the Southern Pacific line.
In 1925, a new seawall and pier were built in the location of the present seawall and pier. Most of the seawall and pier were destroyed in storms in 1983 and were then rebuilt. Tent City disappeared gradually as the town upgraded. By the 1940's, it had all but disappeared.
Pismo Beach is the "Clam Capital" of California. The city holds the "Clam Festival" every October complete with clam chowder, competitions and a clam-themed parade. At the southern end of Price Street upon first entering Pismo Beach, a gigantic concrete clam statue greets visitors. Clamming is restricted, due to over-harvesting by humans and the protected sea otter.
Pismo Beach hosts one of the largest gatherings of custom and classical cars every summer.
The sand at Pismo Beach is hard enough to drive on and campers can drive for miles along it.
Pismo Beach allows dogs on the beach, provided that they are on leash and that their owners pick up after them.
Mild weather make this a perfect area to live or vacation.

I couldn't have had more perfect weather for an open house by the beach! Clear skies, 75 degrees, a light breeze, and nobody else was holding a property open anywhere in the neighborhood1
I was rewarded with great traffic and lots of solid leads. Sunshine poured through all the windows, the newly remodeled kitchen sparkled, and with all the rain we've had, the front and back gardens were full of flowers and looked great.
My Valentine themed food went over really well...I passed out a dozen miniature Chinese take-out boxes filled with candy hearts and Red Hots, with my biz card attached on one side and a brief property description on the other. I even did water bottle labels advertising the listing. The water was especially appreciated, as I had lots of beach-goers walking back to their cars who had gotten thirsty in the balmy weather.
This home has only been on the market a week, and I really hope it lasts long enough to do another few open houses! It's a buyer-magnet for sure!
