Pay it Forward with Soldier Care Packages

Christina ONeal ~ Ripon, California realtor: Real Estate Agent in Ripon, CA

I had the honor & pleasure of walking to Almond Blossom Church in Ripon with the 5th graders at Riponkids waiting for their instructions Christian on this Friday, 2/4/11. The 5th graders carried all the donations that they were collecting for the past few weeks.

It was "organized chaos" as Mrs. Nancy VanderVeen described & she was right. There were 2 very looooooonnnng tables with boxes labeled (soap, soup, pillowcases, hand sanitizer, toothbrushes, toothpaste, baby wipes, pencils, pens, stationery, batteries, cereal bars, deoderant, candy, gum, popcorn, toys, magazines, shaving cream, razors, beef jerky, feminine products, nuts, shampoo, socks, canned food, protein bars).

We had 2 hours of both 5th grade classes sorting all the donated items. After we sorted, the kids had a buddy & packed one box at a time with love & care. I enjoyed listening to the kids thought processes. They were talking with each other & saying wellkids packing boxes we need to make sure they have a pen with their stationery, shaving cream with razors. My son was really stuck on making sure that his soldier received the nerf football plus a can of chunky soup. After they packed a box real tight, they had to write what was in each box (for the post office).kids sorting donations

We packed about 60 soldier care packages, I know they were hopeing for 100 of them.

We are looking for soldiers serving in Iraq or Afganhistan to send these packages too. If you know anyone serving right now over there, please email me or respond here with their address so we may send them one of these fun packages.

Top 4 reasons why I help in my sons classroom

Christina ONeal ~ Ripon, California realtor: Real Estate Agent in Ripon, CA

I was scheduled to help out in my son's 5th grade classroom at Ripon Christian today. I really enjoyed all aspects of it.teacher teaching

  1. After you (the parent) are in the back of the classroom for awhile, they (your kid) forget that you are there & you can see the "true" kid in action hard at work. I saw that sometimes he doesn't pay attention & he is definitely a "doodler".
  2. Your kids teacher will know your care & appreciate the help.
  3. Seeing how your kids teacher teaches is so important, especially the math. Noah & I tend to argue a little about how problems are done. I don't teach exactly how the teacher does. I definitely picked up some good tips today. It was really good just to see her routine, so I can better relate with Noah when talking about homework or his daily work at school.
  4. You will have a renewed appreciation for your childs teacher for sure. I know I do. I was mentally exhausted thinking of all the subjects she teaches them, the amount of correcting that has to be done & tallying of grades. It seems like more than a full time job for sure.
