Mission Creek Cleanup

keep clean sign

Saturday September 17th

9am-Noon

All right fellow SOMA, and Mission Bay residents it's time to roll up those sleeves and put in some elbow grease. California Coastal Cleanup Day is this Saturday 9/17/11.

Cleanups are taking place all over California bays, rivers, creeks, coasts and highways and if you'd like to get involved, come on down to our neighborhood waterway Mission Creek.

Sadly, Mission Creek was named one of the most polluted waterways in the Bay Area by Save the Bay. The various homeless camps found down the creek, the post-Giant's game litter, and storm drains flowing into the creek have turned the spot into a trash receptacle.

But you can help. Come out on Saturday armed with sunscreen and a reusable water bottle and everything else will be there for you.

Mission Bay condo Appt Could have gone very very bad

John M Scott - Broker / Owner San Francisco Real Estate: Real Estate Agent in San Francisco, CA

Friday I made an appt for my clients / friends from Shanghai to see a condo / townhouse in San Francisco's Mission Bay. I called in early afternoon, and the Realtor was good enough to set one for 5pm.

My clients and i started out in West Portal because they really liked the access to shopping and light rail. But I really wanted them to see South Beach / Mission Bay - there's shopping, walk to grocery stores, 20 minutes walk to Union Square, plus the water / bay views they were after.

My clients don't drive, so they wanted to take SF's MUNI (light rail) downtown for the experience. (Not always a good idea!) So I got my first Clipper card, and off we went. We were a little late because we saw a home on Ulloa Street they really liked, so that took longer than expected. As we were finally on our way on the train I knew we were going to be late - I tried to stay calm as the train stalled numerous times in the subway.....

255 BerryAt the last subway stop (Embarcadero Station) I called the other agent at 5pm and told her we were on our way in the next train down the Embarcadero and should be there soon - left a voicemail. We finally got to the last stop on King Street, past the AT&T ballpark and near Caltrain station, and quickly walked to the appointment. At this point we were lucky to arrive at 5:30pm, a half hour late. We walked up to the door, and I saw a smiling face greet us inside. She greeted us with a smile, and joked that we shouldn't have taken MUNI. She was eloquent in showing us the building and the townhouse we wanted to see.

My clients have a tendancy to talk a lot and get off subject, but that is natural for someone from out of country. For awhile we talked about the area, and then Shanghai and a few other areas that are known to be paradise on earth. It was a lot of fun. The other agent basically sold them on the South Beach / Mission Bay neighborhood, which I knew in my heart they would totally fall in love with. I owe her for that one.

The point is, this appointment could have gone totally south - because we were so late and took up a lot of her time - at least an hour and a half! But it didn't, and we parted with the other agent as friends would. It is just so wonderful to be able to have a professional and courteous meeting with another Realtor.

And today I'm on a roll. I called and made 4 more appts for Monday afternoon in the same area. All the Realtors were accomodating and pleasant. Is this an alternate universe or better yet a sign of more professionalism? I vote for the last and that it will continue! And believe me, we WILL be on time this time....

Hunters Point Shipyard We've been discussing large development projects that have the ability to change the face of certain area's of our great city. None are more important than the renovation of the Hunters Point Shipyard. A brief look at what's done and what's next: Developer: Lennar Urban Phase 1: 88 units set to break ground at the start of 2010 Phase 1A: 159 units set to break ground in the 2nd half of 2010 Price Range: $400K-$700K with the majority of units priced under $500K. Price per square foot will be in the neighborhood of $500. While the developer is slightly leery of the current market, there's also much optimism. "This is a long-term project, and we have to get started at some point. By the time the first batch of homes are on line, there won't be a lot of inventory of new projects out there," said Jack Robertson, VP of Development for Lennar Urban. Materials used will be stucco, corrugated steel, wood, translucent resin panels and lots of glass to take advantage of city and bay views. The project will have a much different feel than the block style located along Berry Street.
Mission Bay Development
Six years ago there was a vision for a new neighborhood in southeast San Francisco. Come Thanksgiving when 130 families move into the recently completed Mission Walk project (pictured right), there will be a total of 3,426 new units added over the past six years! There will be a lull, however, of at least 2 years before the next batch of 6,000 units is complete. Project Updates Radiance: 99 units in Phase 1 with only 4 remaining. The next phase of 318 units is set to resume construction in late 2010. Artera: 269 units with only 40 remaining Mercy Housing: Affordable housing units, similar to Mission Walk, is currently raising money for the 2nd phase of development and has slated 2011 for construction with completion in 2012 One surprising element with all the development - kids! The area is home to over 350 children. A neighborhood group has been formed with the goal of creating a playground, which was not slated for construction until 2012, but is now becoming a major priority.
Tis the Season
With Thanksgiving nearly here, holiday festivities are springing up all around town. A few highlights to get your holiday cheer in full swing… 39th Annual Tree Lighting at Ghirardelli Square November 25th, 5:30pm 50 foot tree, Ghirardelli carolers and hot chocolate - Yum! Festival of Lights November 26th - December 31st Fisherman's Wharf. The holiday season is the time to visit this typical tourist stop. Bright lights outline the buildings and decorations line the lagoons. Union Square Tree Lighting November 28th, 6pm Yet another tree lighting, but you can ice skate and watch this one! Holiday Ice Rink at Embarcadero Center Open now. Easily one of the best outdoor seasonal rinks. Where else in the world can you ice skate alongside Palm Trees?
